Season 12 of Formula E saw two new rookies join the grid. Joining the Andretti Formula E team was former Formula 2 champion, Felipe Drugovich. Ahead of the final round of the season, The Girls Who – Motorsport caught up with the Brazilian. Discussing his rookie campaign, he spoke about his expectations and development.

Expectations Vs Reality and Reflecting

Looking at coming into the series, Drugovich shared that he had “good expectations to be in a good position, scoring points”. However, he went on to explain how his main expectations came for the second half of the season. Whilst the latter stages have matched his hopes, reality showed that his first half “was not even close”.

Reflecting more, Drugovitch admitted that he “could have done much more at the beginning of the year”. The rookie spoke about the missed opportunities in the first half of the season and how those lead to him having zero points in the early stages. This was “really a shame because I feel like if we had that, it would have been another type of story.”

Despite the lack of early points, when looking at the season as a whole, Drugovich remains “relatively happy” with how his rookie campaign has come together. He is hopeful that the increase in his performance will “put me in a better position for next year.”

A Proud Moment and Developing

Each round in Season 12 has seen Drugovich improve as he progresses. As we face the end of the season, attention turns to GEN4 preparation. The rookie shared he’ll be taking a “bit of everything” he’s experienced in order to develop going forward.

“We come into Formula E and you don’t really know how to behave in races because it’s so different to other series.” He shared, going on to reiterate that you learn as you grow. A podium in Monaco has shown his initial growth. But outside of the results, Drugovich’s proudest moment came from Berlin. It was a very consistent weekend marking the upward trajectory of the season.

Ultimately, the Brazilian is happy with how his season has unfolded. Although there were times where things didn’t go his way, he has shown clear progression. This has led to him securing his seat next year, and he’ll gain another season to grow alongside Andretti.
