Freddie Slater has taken pole position for the second F3 race weekend in a row. He set the pace in Practice and was able to secure an impressive time before Qualifying was disrupted and ended prematurely.

The Scramble at the Start

As qualifying began, rain began to fall and all 20 drivers emerged onto the track in order to set the best lap possible before the rain paused the session.

The three PREMA drivers of Louis Sharp, James Wharton and José Garfias were the first drivers to begin their flying laps. Sharp set the initial fastest lap before Wharton, Pedro Clerot, Hiyu Yamakoshi and Tuukka Taponen set faster times.

However, it was Trident’s Freddie Slater who was able to set the overall fastest time with a 2:05.150.

At the same time, Yamakoshi went off track and Fionn McLaughlin also went off but at Jacky Ickx Corner.

As the session progressed, the rain continued to get worse and traffic began to increase, as seen in Practice.

Mid-session Disruption

Whilst all drivers held back as a way of giving themselves the room to begin another flying lap, a massive crash occurred that involved Noah Strømsted, Yevan David, Yamakoshi and one of the PREMA drivers.

Thankfully all drivers involved were okay and uninjured. The session, however, was red-flagged and all drivers were forced to return to the pit lane.

Qualifying Will Not Be Resumed

After waiting in the pit lane race control announced that the session would not be resumed.

As a result, Freddie Slater will start Sunday’s Feature Race from pole position. Saturday’s Sprint Race pole position went to Jin Nakamura.

The F3 Sprint Race will take place tomorrow at 10:00 local time.
