Early Pace Setters in the Opening Minutes
After advancing straight into Q2 from Friday’s practice session, Pedro Acosta quickly joined the rest of the grid out of the pit lane and onto the Balaton Park circuit. With 30 minutes on the clock, the real mission for the session was to find the optimal settings before qualifying.
However, the first top time did not go to the #37, but to Fabio Di Giannantonio with a 1:39.359. Eyes were on Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, who looked quick at certain sections of the Hungarian track. Meanwhile, his Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP teammate, Jack Miller, rode straight on into the gravel at the end of the back straight.
Raúl Fernández pushed his Trackhouse MotoGP Team to the limit, swapping the top spot with Acosta on each time attack. But Di Giannantonio shaved another couple of seconds off his best lap time to take the top spot.
Quiet First Runs as Marc Márquez Goes to the Top
With the track and tyres warming up, the reigning champion and all-time lap record holder at this circuit, M. Márquez, went P1 with a 1:37.596.
Fellow Ducati Lenovo Team rider Francesco Bagnaia was sitting comfortably in P8, giving us some extra visuals of the updated tail unit that the factory Ducati team are sporting this weekend. The #63 rider was one of the few riders extending the first run before returning to the pit lane.
That left Jorge Martín and Brad Binder remaining out on the circuit while every other rider was back in their respective garages.
Final Runs Bring FP2 to a Calm Close
With a little under a third of the session remaining, everyone was back out to make their final runs and setup tests. Standing in for Álex Márquez, Iker Lecuona looked comfortable on the BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP bike as he kept pace with the middle pack.
The battle for top time attack heated up between Di Giannantonio and M. Márquez, while Acosta had his lap time deleted for track limits. There appeared to be some slow riding on line from Cal Crutchlow, sitting on the LCR Honda machine in Johann Zarco’s place. That hindered M.Márquez slightly before the #93 pushed another blistering lap.
The undramatic Saturday morning came to a close with a wave of the checkered flag without serious incident or fanfare.
