Driver Academy Deep Dive: Red Bull

Red Bull have got one of the most infamous and ruthless Junior teams, with drivers being subbed-out mid season and others being promoted. Since their creation in 2001, Red Bull have had over twenty of their drivers graduate to Formula One, and many others have seen successes in other disciplines.

Current drivers

Enzo Tarnvanichkul

Enzo Tarnvanichkul is a Thai driver who will be racing in Eurocup-3 with Campos Racing in 2026. In January 2023, the 16-year-old was announced as a member of the Red Bull Junior Team. In 2024, Tarnvanichkul made his car racing debut and has since competed across several disciplines taking two wins and four further podiums.

Rocco Coronel

Rocco Coronel is a Dutch driver who was chosen to join the Red Bull Junior Team in 2024 after participating in a three-day evaluation in Jerez. In 2025, he raced in the Ginetta Junior Championship where he won the title as a rookie. In 2026, Coronel will be racing in Spanish F4. He is also the son of Dakar Rally and touring car legend, Tom Coronel.

Scott Lindblom

Scott Kin Lindblom is a Swedish driver who joined Red Bull’s Junior Team in 2024 after successes in karting. For 2025, Lindblom stepped up to the Ginetta Junior championship, finishing the season in fourth. In 2026, the Swedish driver will be racing with Hitech Grand Prix in the British F4 Championship.

Fionn McLaughlin

Fionn McLaughlin is the reigning British F4 champion and joined the Red Bull Junior Team in 2024. In 2026, the Irishman will be competing in FIA F3 with Hitech GP. Previously in 2026, McLaughlin has also raced in the Formula Regional Oceania Trophy (FROT) championship, where he got a best result of sixth.

Ernesto Rivera

Ernesto Rivera has been a part of the junior team since 2024. The Mexican driver has raced in several F4-level championships since then, but has also moved up to Eurocup-3. He took three wins and a further four podiums in the latter. In 2026, Rivera will be racing in F3 with Campos Racing.

Nikola Tsolov

Nikola Tsolov joined the Red Bull Junior Team in 2025, after being a member of the Alpine Academy from 2022 until 2024. In 2026, the Bulgarian will be racing in his first full season of Formula 2 with Campos Racing. In 2025, Tsolov raced in F3, finishing second in the overall standings as well as racing in four F2 races.

Chiara Bättig

Chiara Bättig is a Swiss driver who joined Red Bull in 2025, during their Driver Search programme. In 2025, Bättig raced in both karting and car racing. In karting, she has a best finish of second in the Champions of the Future- OK-N category, whilst in cars she had a best result of seventh in the F4 Saudi Arabian Championship. In 2026, Bättig will compete in both Formula Winter Series and British F4.

Mattia Colnaghi

Mattia Colnaghi joined Red Bull in 2025, and will be competing in F3 with MP Motorsport in 2026. Previously, the Argentine driver won the Spanish F4 Championship in 2024, finished second in the 2025 Eurocup-3 Spanish Winter Championship and won Eurocup-3 in the same year.

Melvin Kalousdian

Melvin Kalousdian is a Swedish racing driver who joined the Red Bull Junior Team in 2026. In 2025, he became the youngest ever driver in Formula Nordic, at just 13 years old and he went on to win the title. In 2026, the young Swedish driver will be racing in Ginetta Junior.

Former drivers

Sebastian Vettel

Sebastian Vettel was one of the earliest members of the Red Bull Junior Team, joining in 2001 whilst still competing in karting. Vettel had a lot of early success, winning eight titles in karting and becoming the Formula BMW ADAC Champion in only his second year of car racing. During his time in the junior team, the German driver raced in several F3-level championships. In 2007, Vettel made the step up to F1 with Toro Rosso, and left the Junior Team. He took his first win in 2008 and in 2009, Sebastian Vettel was promoted to Red Bull and he won four championships from 2010 until 2013. Vettel remained in F1 until 2022, when he retired from racing.

Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen is potentially the most well-known of all of the Red Bull Junior Team graduates. He was a member of the programme in 2014, winning the Zandvoort Masters in the same year. In 2015, Verstappen moved from F3 to F1 with Toro Rosso, a team he remained with for 23 races. After four races in 2016, the Dutchman was promoted to Red Bull and became the youngest ever F1 race winner. Since joining Red Bull Racing in F1, Verstappen has won four championships and 71 races. He is the most decorated Red Bull driver of all-time.

Dennis Hauger

Dennis Hauger served in the Red Bull Junior Team from 2018 until 2023. During his time in the programme, the Norwegian driver won the 2019 Italian F4 Championship and 2021 F3 Championship. Since leaving the Junior Team, Hauger has raced in F2, Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia and won the 2025 IndyNXT Championship. In 2026, Hauger will be racing in IndyCar with Dale Coyne Racing.
