Assen Moto2 Grand Prix winner Diogo Moreira had a quiet session in Free Practice 1. The Brazilian was in seventeenth on the timesheet, leaving Joe Roberts to top the board with a flying lap of 1:23.072. The American rider has recently re-signed with his team for the 2026 season.
Moto2 riders had their first taste of the Sachsenring in 2025 in dry conditions. We’ve broken down the key moments in a no-nonsense session to kick off their German GP weekend.
Forty Minutes Count Down
Senna Agius had plenty to celebrate to kick off his weekend at the Sachsenring. Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact announced that the Australian rider has signed on with them for another year in Moto2. He and the other riders were quick to exit the pit lane to navigate the twisty track.
Unlike the earlier Moto3 session, the Moto2 FP1 started smoothly with no incidents. With the championship standings as close as they are, riders got their heads down to set times as quickly as possible.
Half-Way Through Without Incident
Some tight corners caught a few of the riders out, including Alonso López. However, all riders managed to keep their bikes upright and set impressive fast laps. The top spot jumped around from Filip Salač, Joe Roberts (another rider with a 2026 contract signed), Jake Dixon, and the current championship leader, Manuel González.
The First Crash of the Session
López was not as lucky as he came into Sector 4 with nearly ten minutes in the session remaining. The track’s fast speeds into the corner proved too much, and it was lost in a spectacular crash. Thankfully, the rider was unharmed, but it did cancel the flying lap times of several riders.
The Final Five Minutes
With time running out, Moreira continued to keep a low profile. The Brazilian attempted to complete a flying lap, but was held up by traffic. He tried it again, but yellow flags came out when Zonta van den Goorbergh was careening into Iván Ortolá.
The Top Ten
- Joe Roberts
- Jake Dixon
- Manuel González
- Filip Salač
- Marcos Ramírez
- Izan Guevara
- David Alonso
- Deniz Öncü
- Ayumu Sasaki
- Celestino Vietti
While Moreira didn’t perform in this session, this is typical on a Friday for the Brazilian. He is most likely conserving his energy for the afternoon session, which will be crucial to qualifying tomorrow. He wasn’t the only one keeping quiet. Arón Canet also stayed out of the top performers. He has his sights set on taking the championship lead from González. We’ll have to wait and see what the rest of the weekend at the Sachsenring has in store.
