Formula E’s global rise continues as the 2025 Hankook Mexico City E-Prix breaks new viewership records. The latest viewership figures underline the growing love for high-intensity electric racing.
Unprecedented Growth in the U.S.
It recorded a historic milestone in the United States for viewership, with 10.5 million viewers tuning in for the Mexico City E-Prix on CBS. That represents an increase of 80% compared to the 2023 Las Vegas GP and is the most-watched single program in Formula E history. Even more impressively, it outperformed all but one Formula 1 race that has aired in the U.S. over the past two seasons, signaling a big change in the way people consume motorsport and what kind.
Soaring Popularity Around the Globe
The demand for Formula E is soaring not only in North America but also in key international markets. In Europe, viewership was up 65% in Germany and up 64% in France as the sport enjoyed a bigger and more enthusiastic European fanbase than ever before. In Mexico, local interest remained strong with audiences up 10% compared to the previous year’s race.
Meanwhile, the Season 11 Opener in São Paulo was also massively popular, reaching an unprecedented 40 million viewers in its opening round-the highest viewership number the series has ever had.
Undoubtedly a massive drive for the increase was the new free-to-air broadcast deal the UK signed with ITV. The same race last season enjoyed a massive surge in viewership of 120% year-on-year.
Meanwhile, in Brazil, it proved to be the second-highest single-event viewership across all 11 seasons, further underlining Formula E’s position on the world stage of motorsport.
A Sport on the Rise
With new broadcast deals, the next generation of cars -GEN3 Evo- and a growing global fanbase, Formula E’s momentum continues to build and is driving the series’ unprecedented growth. With 14 more races still to come, the championship is on course to deliver its biggest season yet, proving the future of motorsport is electric.
Numbers are bound to increase further with the inclusion of fun-filled Formula E events, such as Evo Sessions in Miami. These events aspire to attract fans from diverse backgrounds across social media platforms, tech, entertainment, and sports – broadening the sport’s appeal.
Given the current viewer demographics and the increasing presence of female and younger fans in motorsport, this strategy looks promising. With new Formula E events happening this season, the doors should be opened for new kinds of content that might excite a different audience than just the fans of racing.
It’s becoming a well-established sport, one to keep an eye on and enjoy, especially since it offers both promising rookies and experienced drivers to cheer for in a competitive environment.
