Today, Paysafe Envision Formula E Team confirm Zak O’Sullivan as their second driver for Season 13. The announcement comes just 24-hours after Maximilian Günther was confirmed to the team, departing what was DS Penske.

O’Sullivan remained a highly rumoured candidate for a seat at the green-livery team, having played a vital role from within, in recent seasons. It comes, then, as no surprise to most, that the team chose to extend this partnership into a full-time seat, heading into the GEN4 era.

Envision & O’Sullivan maintain a strong relationship

The pairing stretches back to Season 11, when the now 21-year-old made his official first appearance with both the team, and in Formula E. O’Sullivan found his first taste of the electric series at the Rookie Free Practice session at the Jeddah E-Prix that year. The result showed true potential within the Brit, and Envision decided to officially keep him involved as their development driver.

Further opportunities to drive the GEN3 Evo car came later during Season 12, participating in Berlin, Miami, and most recently the Madrid Rookie session. During the Miami test session, he stood out among the rest by topping the timesheet – it was a performance that reinforced the team’s confidence in the young driver.

The 21-year-old with a mountain of success

The experience that Zak O’Sullivan has under his belt reinforced the decision to ultimately offer a full-time seat. Numerous junior category successes show just how quickly he has been able to demonstrate his talent on a wider scale. O’Sullivan claimed his first title as GB3 champion in just his second season within a single-seater category. Moving to Formula 3, he added four further race victories to the cabinet, along with a runner-up finish in the 2023 championship.

In 2024, he continued his statement-making, taking home two Formula 2 victories in Monaco and Spa-Francorchamps. The trend was visible, and Envision trusted the data; there was never any doubt that he would be able to perform when asked.

What continued to prove his dedication to racing and development, was his experience in Japanese Super Formula. O’Sullivan enters Formula E with a bounty of experience at a young age, across different categories. The experience shows three key comments: speed, adaptability, and a race winning mentality.

O’Sullivan steps in prepared

The Brit enters the new era of Formula E in an extremely advantageous position. The GEN4 era is fresh for everyone, levelling the playing field in many aspects, and his ongoing relationship with Paysafe Envision provides him a smoother start in the category.

In the wake of a new era, the team took the decision to continue their investment in rising talent. In that, the goal was always for O’Sullivan to one day start his first E-Prix.
