Ahead of the 2026/27 season, CUPRA KIRO announces that Pepe Martí will continue his partnership with the team. After a successful debut season in the all-electric sport, the 21-year-old will continue his development into the GEN4 Era.
A Standout Rookie Performance
Martí established himself quickly as a serious contender in the championship. A shift from competing in Formula 2 was no problem for the rookie as he adjusted quickly to the Formula E setup. Despite a challenging start to his season, with a DNF in Brazil, Martí made significant progress throughout the championship.
His Monaco stint marked one of his best finishes during his debut season. A recovery drive from 15th on the grid to finishing in third place reinforced the talent behind the Spanish driver. He received a second podium finish in Sanya and, overall, finished 13th in the Drivers Championship.
Martí explains how important his results are to him. Talking about his podiums, he states that becoming ”the first Spanish driver to stand on the Formula E podium is something I’m very proud of.” The nature of his achievements creates a milestone for the Spanish community.
A Straightforward Partnership
Russell O’Hagan, team principal of CUPRA KIRO, explained that the continuation of their relationship with Martí was ”a very straightforward decision.” O’Hagan continued to celebrate the growth behind Martí’s first season with the team. At the beginning of the season, he offered patience to the rookie, giving him time to get used to the demands of Formula E. However, O’Hagan explained that Martí ”exceeded our expectations almost immediately and showed consistent performance across the season.”
Ahead of Season 13 and the new GEN4 Era, the team are aligned in their goals for what a successful season will look like. O’Hagan believes that the CUPRA KIRO team are ”only at the beginning of what we believe we can achieve together.” After such a promising season, all eyes are on the team to see how they can improve.
Who Takes the Second Seat?
Martí shared a close partnership with fellow teammate Ticktum. Both expressed that they learnt a lot from each other in their first season together. However, the second seat remains a mystery. There has yet to be a confirmation that Ticktum will re-sign with the team, and there are a few speculations about who may get the second seat.
