Scott McLaughlin leads the way in delayed practice two in Laguna Seca. He topped the times with a 1:10.301. David Malukas looked the most promising in this session in the fight for P2 in the championship standings. With a four way battle, it was Malukas who sat ahead of his championship rivals in this session.
A Loss Of Track Time
IndyCar faced a huge delay following a terrifying accident in the Porsche Sprint Challenge USA, this morning. The crash saw severe damage to the barriers at the Corkscrew that needed to be repaired. Barrier repairs finished over an hour after practice was supposed to start. With time ticking and a packed day of motorsport at Laguna Seca, it was decided once they got running it would be a shortened practice. Drivers pushed for the entirety of their 30 minutes of track time.
Power Finds Pace
Will Power found the 26 car was struggling for pace in yesterday’s practice. Power headed into the session with a new set up and a plan if that didn’t work. He was fifth when the checkered flag fell. An improvement from the 20th he sat in yesterday. He didn’t look too comfortable, however, as the end of the session saw him push too far and skate across the gravel. He’ll hope to only repeat the result rather than the trip over the curb.
Mclaughlin Goes Top In Laguna Seca
The No.3 Team Penske car found the top of the time sheets with under two minutes to go. He pipped Felix Rosenqvist and confirmed champion Álex Palou to P1. It wasn’t a completely smooth session for the Kiwi driver, as he sent the car sparking over a curb going wide. Several drivers have already noted the track’s grip level isn’t what they want. Kyffin Simpson also appeared to struggle for grip as he spun around in turn two. The same corner as teammate Scott Dixon yesterday. He avoided bringing out a caution.
Mick Schumacher, Rinus Veekay, and Nolan Siegel all had an impressionable second session. Siegel will potentially find himself off the grid next year. He briefly went to the top of the session showing a promising sign after struggling in Milwaukee. He finished practice two in 10th. Veekay on a brilliant run of form consistently sat near the top end of the time sheets, finishing in 11th. Schumacher had a strong last lap before the checkered flag moving him up to sixth. All to play for as we head to qualifying in Laguna Seca.
