Formula 2 returned from the summer break with a dramatic free practice session in Monza.
Early running displayed a set of midfield squabbles, as highlighted with Cian Shields running slightly wide off the track as he battled with Rafael Villagómez. Drivers jostled for track position, with slipstreams playing a critical role ahead of their push laps.
Following the first set of flying laps, Noel León set the initial benchmark at 1:32.715. However, Alex Dunne soon overtook him with a 1:32.297 lap.
The session came to an abrupt stop when Colton Herta lost control after going through gravel at the exit of the second Lesmo corner.
Due to the extensive barrier damage caused by the crash, the session did not resume, handing Dunne the fastest time overall with his 1:31.957 lap. Goethe follows close behind, securing second place, ahead of Varrone in third.
