Jorge Martín converted pole position into a dominant Silverstone Sprint victory, leading from lights to flag to secure a crucial Saturday win. The rider controlled the 10-lap contest from the opening sector and eventually crossed the line ahead of team-mate Ai Ogura, while Marco Bezzecchi completed an all-Aprilia podium after a determined charge through the field.

Martín Makes Perfect Start

Martín arrived at Saturday having lost the outright lap record he had set in qualifying, but the Spaniard made the best possible response when the Sprint got underway. He launched cleanly from pole and immediately established a lead over Ogura, with Fabio Di Giannantonio slotting into third.

Behind them, Bezzecchi initially ran fourth before Marc Márquez made his move at Turn 15 to take the position. Raúl Fernández, meanwhile, suffered a poor opening lap and dropped behind Márquez, while Cal Crutchlow crashed out in the early stages.

At the end of Lap 1, Martín led Ogura, Di Giannantonio and Márquez, with Bezzecchi fifth and Fernández sixth. Álex Márquez followed closely behind, while Iker Lecuona also crashed out at the end of the opening lap.

Martín Builds His Advantage

By Lap 3, Martín had stretched his advantage to half a second over Ogura, while Márquez remained within striking distance of Di Giannantonio for third.

The battle behind the leaders was also beginning to intensify, with Fernández closing in on Bezzecchi for fifth. Lecuona’s crash was investigated after contact with Franco Morbidelli, but Race Direction confirmed that no penalty would be issued for the incident.

At the halfway point, Martín had extended his lead to eight tenths and appeared increasingly comfortable at the front. Ogura remained his closest challenger, while Di Giannantonio continued to hold third.

Bezzecchi Battles Through

Bezzecchi produced one of the standout overtakes of the race when he drew alongside Márquez on the exit of a corner before completing the pass under braking. The move elevated the Italian into fourth and put Márquez under immediate pressure from his younger brother.

Álex Márquez duly made his move on Lap 6, diving underneath Marc Márquez at Turn 9 to take fifth place. Marc appeared to be struggling for grip as the Sprint entered its second half, allowing the riders behind to close in.

Bezzecchi wasted little time after moving ahead of Márquez, passing Di Giannantonio to claim third place on Lap 8. The result set up another all-Aprilia podium, with Martín leading Ogura and Bezzecchi. Martín still held a six-tenth advantage at the front, leaving Ogura with a difficult task if he was to deny his team-mate victory.

The final two laps proved particularly difficult for Marc Márquez. Acosta moved past him on the run into Maggotts and Becketts on Lap 9, with Márquez seemingly unable to find enough rear grip to respond.

Martín Wins Silverstone Sprint

Martín remained composed at the front to take victory in the Silverstone Sprint, leading from the opening sector all the way to the chequered flag. Ogura finished second to complete an Aprilia one-two, while Bezzecchi recovered from fifth on the grid to claim the final podium position and make it an all-Aprilia top three.

For Martín, the Sprint victory provided the perfect reward for a weekend in which he had rediscovered confidence at the front of the Aprilia field. After taking pole and then converting it into a controlled victory, the Spaniard now heads into Sunday’s Grand Prix with momentum firmly on his side.
