Drama in the championship happens when you least expect it, and that’s what that Hungary sprint race was about. The DNF of the leader saw Minì and Câmara closing the gap.

Sebastián Montoya kept the lead at the start. It was more complicated for Gabriele Minì in P2 who slipped a bit. Nikola Tsolov made an amazing start, battling with Minì for second position. However, the Italian kept the upper hand. Montoya kept a 1.7 margin at first, but Minì closed it on lap 6, only to let him go out of the DRS zone once again a lap later. However, Tsolov remained close.

Kush Maini tried to attack his teammate for P7, but failed to do so. Even though Gabriele Minì was doing fastest lap after fastest lap, he didn’t manage to overtake Montoya for the lead. On lap 16, Joshua Durksen went really wide. A couple of turns later, Gabriele Minì was really close to Montoya, and despite the PREMA closing the door, the Italian overtook him for the lead of the race, when Montoya locked his tyres to brake late. Nikola Tsolov tried to attack as well but only stayed close to the PREMA.

The move you should not make

Kush Maini finally overtook Inthraphuvasak on lap 19. On lap 20, Fittipaldi went into the pit for soft tyres, probably to gather some data for tomorrow’s feature race. Nikola Tsolov tried to dive in the inside of Montoya on lap 22, but completely missed his braking, taking the PREMA out with him. Both of them DNFed. A virtual safety car was called and some drivers went into the pit.

Noel León and Joshua Durksen battled hard and the Mexican closed the door on the outside, pushing a tyre of Durksen into the grass. However, Noel León took a 5-seconds penalty for virtual safety car infringement. Rafael Câmara tried to attack Van Hoepen for the last podium position with two laps remaining. Minì in front still had rhythm and created more than a 3.5 seconds margin to Beganovic behind. Laurens Van Hoepen kept his podium, behind Dino Beganovic. Gabriele Minì took the win, his first sprint race win of the season.
