Edoardo Mortara was the fastest overall during Free Practice 2 of Round 14 of the Formula E Championship ahead of the Tokyo E-Prix. After an early red flag and a 5-minute extension, Mortara was unbeatable.

Early Interrupted Free Practice 2

During the first ten minutes, there were no representative times set as drivers were testing the track. However, Felipe Drugovich lost the car and went into the barriers, deploying the first red flag of the session. All drivers went back into the pits, and the session was stopped.

Free Practice 2 restarted and was extended by 5 minutes to compensate for the time lost. Edoardo Mortara’s time of 1:14.587 was the benchmark. However, drivers started to improve quickly and there was a lot of movement at the top.

Joel Eriksson set a new fastest lap of 1:13.657, ahead of António Félix da Costa and the current championship leader, Pascal Wehrlein. Mortara’s immediate response was to set another lap that put him first again. Meanwhile, his teammate Nyck de Vries had contact with the wall and aborted his lap.

Into the Last 20 Minutes

With 15 minutes remaining, the track kept evolving, and the drivers pitted once again to cool down and get through the heat. As time ran out, Mortara was still the fastest man on track.

Wehrlein improved to second, just two tenths behind Mortara. However, after his fast lap, Dan Ticktum beat him and took second, just a tenth behind the fastest.

Despite last-minute attempts to beat Edoardo Mortara’s lap time, no one could beat the benchmark. At the end of the session, Edoardo Mortara stood as the fastest man on track, ahead of Ticktum and Wehrlein.
