The Hungaroring tested drivers’ nerves in the sprint race. Campos had their double podium while Kanato Le made his first of the season.

Beautiful start from Gerard Xie who took the upper hand but quickly got caught up into Turn 2. He missed the brake which gave the opportunity to Kanato Le to take the pole back. Jin Nakamura touched the car of Xie while trying to avoid his car, and took Gladysz out with him. This gave the opportunity to Théophile Naël to take P2 before the safety car.

Clean restart from every driver. Rivera tried to take the upper hand on Naël but didn’t manage to do so. A small battle for P6 happened during a couple of laps between Lacorte and Ugochukwu. The Campos Racing driver finally managed to overtake on lap 7. Théophile Naël overtook Le on lap 9 for the lead of the race.

Tyres degradation played a part

Ugochukwu didn’t want to set up for P5 but he cut some turns, which was noted by the FIA. He took a 5-seconds penalty for it. Wharton and Barichello battled for P10, with the Prema driver keeping the lead. Ugochukwu’s tyres started to struggle, which gave the opportunity to Badoer and Lacorte to come really close. With Badoer overtaking him, Lacorte tried to do the same but Ugochukwu closed the door and they made contact. This gave the opportunity to Tuukka Taponen to overtake Lacorte for P7.

De Palo took a 5-seconds penalty for false start. Barrichello managed to overtake Slater for P9, leaving the Trident driver without any points. Thankfully for him, with the penalties, he took the last point remaining. Théophile Naël won the sprint race, going from P7 to P1. Kanato Le took P2 and Rivera completed the podium. Théophile Naël comes back to the championship battle, with only a 29 points deficit to Ugochukwu and Slater.
