Marc Márquez strengthened his status as the undisputed king of the Sachsenring by claiming a commanding victory in Saturday’s Sprint race at the German Grand Prix, leading home brother Álex Márquez in a Ducati one-two after another clinical display.
Having shattered the lap record and topped Friday’s Practice, the reigning world champion entered Saturday as the clear favourite despite admitting he still had work to do on race pace.
Márquez Takes Control from the Start
Marc Márquez launched perfectly from pole position to lead into Turn 1, immediately establishing himself ahead of Álex Márquez, while rookie Ai Ogura made an impressive start to move into third.
The Márquez brothers quickly broke clear of the chasing pack as the battle behind intensified. Jorge Martín gained a position on Francesco Bagnaia to move into sixth, while Fabio Quartararo slipped backwards after a difficult opening lap. Pedro Acosta made little progress from ninth and was handed an early track limits warning.
By the third lap, Fabio Di Giannantonio had emerged as the fastest rider on circuit and soon worked his way into third place, settling into pursuit of the leading pair.
Morbidelli Crash as Battles Intensify
The race remained largely settled at the front, although Franco Morbidelli’s Sprint ended prematurely after crashing on lap seven.
Further back, championship leader Martín focused on limiting the damage rather than chasing victory. The Aprilia rider found himself under sustained pressure from Bagnaia as the pair battled over sixth place, with valuable championship points at stake.
As the race entered its closing stages, Marc Márquez gradually increased his advantage. Álex Márquez remained within striking distance but was unable to mount a genuine challenge, while Di Giannantonio closed rapidly in the fight for second after displaying impressive late-race pace.
Family One-Two Seals Another Sachsenring Masterclass
Despite Di Giannantonio applying pressure on the final laps, Álex Márquez held onto second place to complete a family one-two behind his brother.
Marc Márquez crossed the line unchallenged to secure another Sachsenring Sprint victory, adding to an already remarkable record at the German circuit. The Ducati rider controlled proceedings from lights to flag, converting Friday’s dominant form into maximum Sprint points ahead of Sunday’s Grand Prix.
While Di Giannantonio ultimately had to settle for third, his late charge underlined the strength of his pace, even if it arrived too late to deny the Márquez brothers another memorable result.
