Raúl Fernández sets a late lap to top MotoGP Free Practice One. After a very quiet session, Fernández waited till the last five minutes to go 0.051 seconds faster than Marc Márquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio.
Green Flag at Pit Lane
As every rider got onto the circuit to start their session, there was a yellow flag within a minute. Cal Crutchlow‘s bike cut out at turn three, and he had to push it to the side of the track. Five minutes later, Márquez had a front-end crash at the same corner.
There was also an early crash for Maverick Viñales, who came off just before he came down the famous hill. He did walk away, but the bike was battered and bruised.
After the first laps, it was Álex Márquez who was fastest, followed by Di Giannantonio and Marco Bezzecchi, who was returning after his crash at the Dutch Grand Prix.
At the halfway point of the session, all five manufacturers were within the top 10. M. Márquez started getting back on track after his earlier crash and slowly built his pace back up to work on his lap time. He eventually set a lap time to top his brother’s time.
As the time ticked down in the session, riders were working away to find their best set-up. Everyone stayed calm, which led to a session with not much excitement.
With just over 10 minutes to go, Franco Morbidelli had a very similar crash to M. Márquez at turn three. Morbidelli’s bike was lifted over a bump, causing the crash. He was okay and walked away.
With five minutes left on the clock, lots of riders were setting fastest sector times, with Fernández going fastest. He kept the fastest lap till the end of the session.
