Most of the race was a strategy mind game but within the last ten laps, chaos came into the track. Ultimately, Nikola Tsolov took his fourth win of the season, coming only 2 point behind Gabriele Miní.
Noel León, Nikola Tsolov and Gabriele Miní all had a great start, but it was not the case for Alexander Dunne who lost two positions. Montoya, Villagomez and Durksen were trying to overtake each other but the Prema and Van Amersfoort drivers finished in the gravel, putting an early end to their race. The safety car was called, and Fittipaldi decided to pit. Everyone kept their positions at the restart. Durksen attacked Inthrapuvasak and managed to overtake him. Bilinski and Maini quickly did the same. Drivers on supersoft started to pit on lap 7.
Alexander Dunne pitted a lap later to put the soft tyres on. Nikola Toslov, leader of the race, also pitted while still having green sectors time. His pit was really bad from his team, making him lose a lot of time. He managed to go back on track in front of Dunne but with fresher tyres. Gabriele Miní and Rafael Câmara pitted on lap 9. The Italian driver came out in front of Tsolov, but with fresher tyres he lost the position. Even Dunne overtook him.
Heated battles on track
Two laps later, the Irish driver tried to attack the Bulgarian for the virtual lead of the race but didn’t manage to overtake yet. He did it a couple of corners later, and broke a part of Tsolov’s front wing. Gabriele Miní, still comfortably close to them behind, also tried to overtake with the help of the DRS, but backed down at the last minute when he saw Tsolov closing the door. Rafael Câmara overtook León for P12. Oliver Goethe, on a different strategy, was comfortably leading the race, with a 5.6 seconds gap to Inthrapuvasak behind. Stenshorne tried to overtake Varrone but came from afar and slightly hit the Van Amersfoort car. Dunne tried to attack on track but made a small mistake, giving Tsolov the opportunity to overtake him on lap 25.
Mind games for the win
Miní behind quickly tried to come close to the Irish to not let the Red Bull Junior create a big gap. Mari Boya had an issue with his car while overtaking Colton Herta. His Prema stopped on track, and Martinius Stenshore went to the pit before the virtual safety car. It could be a great opportunity, but 13 laps remaining might be a bit too long for him on supersoft. Gabriele Miní overtook Alexander Dunne on lap 29, directly after the green flag was waved. Oliver Goethe, leader of the race, pitted on lap 30 for his supersoft tyres. He went back on track on P10. He started his climb back into the ranking.
On lap 34, the battle between Dunne and Câmara for the 3rd position was on. It came really close between both drivers, and their battle gave the opportunity to drivers behind to come back. After a back and forth, Oliver Goethe managed to overtake all of them for the last step of the podium. Dunne took a step back, probably having no rhythm anymore, and Câmara kept his fourth position. Stenshorne overtook León for P7, taking fourteen positions up. Nikola Tsolov won the Austrian Grand Prix Feature Race, in front of his championship rival Gabriele Miní and Oliver Goethe. It’s also a double podium for MP Motorsport. Only two points separates Miní and Tsolov in the championship.
