Formula E FP2 in Sanya took place under a rising track temperature and persistent cloud cover, following yesterday’s FP1 session. For FP2, Pascal Wehrlein topped the timesheets and led the grid as fastest overall.

FP2 in Sanya Is Underway

FP2 in Sanya got underway, and following several build-up laps to bring the tyres to temperature for the session, drivers started setting the first timed laps. In a flurry of movement, Lucas Di Grassi momentarily topped the timesheets early in the session. Meanwhile, Oliver Rowland experienced some form of issues with the car.

During the first ten minutes, drivers of the likes of Sebastien Buemi, Pascal Wehrlein, Edoardo Mortara, and Nyck de Vries kept improving their times on each lap. With 30 minutes to go, Wehrlein led the grid with a 1:07, and less than a tenth separated the top 4.

Meanwhile, Dan Ticktum struggled at the beginning of the session. Ticktum had gone off track twice, deploying two momentary yellow flags. Before reaching the 20-minute mark, drivers went back to the pits after the first stint of FP2 in Sanya.

Second Stint of FP2

As FP2 in Sanya entered the halfway point, Buemi set the fastest time ahead of Mortara and Felipe Drugovich. However, Mortara responded with a fastest lap of his own. De Vries also improved, setting a new fastest lap of 1:05.537 and climbing to the top of the standings.

Further back, on his fast lap, Rowland slid into the side of António Félix da Costa. The Nissan driver came across a slower da Costa. Both drivers were unscratched, but the incident was noted.

With 12 minutes to go, movement appeared at the top of the timesheet. Jack Dennis went fastest, as Wehrlein, Drugovich, Taylor Barnard, Müller, and Mortara separated the Mahindra lineup. After improving once again, Mortara went back on top.

With three minutes left, drivers tried to improve their runs. At the end of FP2 in Sanya, Pascal Wehrlein retook the lead, ahead of Mortara and Dennis.
