Alisha Palmowski tops F1 Academy’s only practice session in Canada. F1 Academy had an almost two month break following the cancellation of the Jeddah round.
F1 Academy Returns With Revised Schedule
Before the race weekend, it was announced that Canada and COTA rounds of F1 Academy would have a bonus race following the cancellation of the Jeddah races. The new ‘Opening Race‘ will see the second fastest times from qualifying set the grid.
Early Incidents
As the session began, Esmee Kosterman appeared to have an issue in the pit lane. She was able to get out on track but seemed to struggle. Ella Lloyd was an early leader but several drivers had their laps disrupted when the yellow flag was shown for the spinning Jade Jacquet. The Williams driver was able to get back on track and continue running.
Nina Gademan moved to the top of the timings with a 1:42.220, beating championship leader Emma Felbermayr by three tenths.
Times Coming Down
As the times began to fall, it was Alba Larsen and Palmowski who were at the top of the timings despite the latter having a big off in Turn 8. Once again the yellow flag was thrown, but this time it was for Felbermayr who spun in the same place that Jacquet had. Rachel Robertson also went off track.
Palmowski remained at the top of the times with a 1:39.371 but rookie Lisa Billard was able to move up to second position, four tenths off Palmowski.
Incidents at the End
Towards the end of Practice, it was clear that Palmowski’s was the time to beat however no other driver was able to come close to her.
Gademan and Ava Dobson were close to a collision when the American Express driver exited the pit lane and veered into the path of the Alpine.
Larsen also had an incident, making contact with the wall at the end of the session.
