Dan Ticktum Takes impressive Pole in Monaco

Formula E had the first Qualifying session for this double-header in Monaco. Dan Ticktum took his second pole in Formula E with an impressive lap, ahead of Round 9 in Monaco. Nyck de Vries will start from second.

Group A

The opening group of the Qualifying session featured current championship leader, Pascal Wehrlein, Edoardo Mortara, Nico Müller, Jake Dennis, Sebástien Buemi, Dan Ticktum, Taylor Barnard, Jean Éric-Vergne, and Maximilian Günther. Zane Maloney was supposed to join them, but was sidelined after his crash in FP2.

Wehrlein and Müller led the way, with Müller briefly moving to the top of the timesheets and Vergne slotting into fourth. Meanwhile, Mortara appeared to have a mechanical problem and couldn’t set a time lap.

Entering the last minutes of the Qualifying session, drivers started registering their last flying laps. Dennis struggled to improve, while Wehrlein reclaimed the top spot ahead of Günther and Müller. Dan Ticktum completed the four drivers who would go through the Duel stage.

Group B

In the Group B Qualifying session, Mitch Evans showed great pace throughout the session and secured the top of the pile. However, the session involved frantic laps.

For much of the session, Normand Nato looked set for a spot in the top four. However, late improvement from Joel Eriksson and Nyck de Vries took second and fourth, pushing the Nissan driver down to seventh.

Meanwhile, reigning champion Oliver Rowland opted to wait until the last minute to put on a representative lap. However, during his last lap, Rowland made contact with the wall, which slowed him down.

At the chequered flag, the four drivers advancing to the Duel stage were EvansDe VriesAntónio Félix da Costa, and Eriksson.

Duels Stage

Müller vs Günther: This first duel was close between both drivers. As they approached the final line, Günther saw the chequered flag nearly two tenths ahead of Müller, securing his way to the semifinals.

Ticktum vs Wehrlein: The second duel began with Ticktum looking comfortable in the car, despite being pretty even. Ticktum outqualified the current championship leader and went through to the semifinals.

Da Costa vs de Vries: At the beginning of his lap, Da Costa made a mistake that cost him valuable time, and that helped Nyck de Vries secure a place for the semifinals.

Evans vs Eriksson: Evans showed a great pace since the beginning of his lap, matching Dan Ticktum’s previous lap time. Evans secured the last spot for the semifinals, going against de Vries.

Semifinals Stage

The first semifinal between Maximilian Günther and Dan Ticktum was quite even. Both drivers had slight contact with the wall; however, Ticktum had the advantage and went through.

During the semifinal between Mitch Evans and Nyck de Vries, the Mahindra Racing driver was putting a nice lap together during the first sector. Despite losing time at the end, de Vries outqualifed Evans and went through the final against Ticktum.

Battle for the Pole

Dan Ticktum and Nyck de Vries were the two drivers battling for pole. Since the beginning of the session, Ticktum showed great pace around Monaco.

The Cupra Kiro driver, despite touching the wall slightly on the first sector, delivered an unbelievable lap. Nyck de Vries couldn’t close the gap as he crossed the line, and Dan Ticktum secured his second pole in his Formula E career.
