With his victory in Round 10 in Berlin in 2024, António Félix Da Costa became the first driver to win three times at the same circuit. Previously, in 2020, da Costa won Round 6 and Round 7. Talking with The Girls Who – Motorsport, the driver said he would like to make it a fourth, but, as a team, they had other priorities.
Da Costa Targets Fourth Berlin Victory with Confidence
His latest win in Berlin was in 2024 Round 10, when Da Costa was starting 10th and climbed his way to victory. Back in 2020, the driver started from pole in both Round 6 and Round 7, and claimed victory with a dominant performance.
This year, when asked about making it a fourth win, Da Costa said, “we can challenge everybody for the win”. However, the Jaguar TCS Racing driver was also aware of the difficulties of winning races in Formula E.
Da Costa reassured that, as a team, they have a goal, but that he “would be happy with two top fives this weekend.”
Changing Conditions in Berlin
Unlike the years before, the Berlin Formula E was scheduled by early May, and that affected the track condition. A track that seemed colder and gripless seemed to suit Da Costa’s driving style.
The Portuguese had won races in similar conditions; however, he explained how this change wouldn’t really affect him or benefit him. Da Costa stated how he “actually won some hot races in my career as well” and reassured how, as a team, they know how to deal with the car in any type of conditions and “it doesn’t really matter”.
A Welcomed Teammate Battle
Ahead of Round 7 and Round 8 in Berlin, there is a point difference between António Félix Da Costa and his teammate, Mitch Evans. At the same time, there is a point gap in the Teams Championship as well. These types of situations normally should give rise to difficulties when it comes to sharing information.
However, the Portuguese driver made it very clear that it was “not difficult at all,” and as a team, they have a clear goal, and to accomplish that, they “focus on race by race and scoring as much points as we can for the team”. Despite being aware of what the main focus is at the moment, Da Costa expressed being excited to have the chance to fight his teammate, considering “it a really good problem to have”.
Despite the optimism, the Berlin double-header fell short for Da Costa, but the season remains wide open, with the team still a strong Championship contender.
