Formula E FP2 in Berlin took place under still warm and clear skies, following yesterday’s FP1 conditions. This year’s weather is a stark contrast to last year’s conditions. Despite the conditions, António Félix Da Costa leads ahead of Jean-Éric Vergne and Felipe Drugovich.
Early Stages Set a Precedent
As drivers went out, they took their time to warm up the tyres. The temperature conditions were different for the tyres compared to yesterday. Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara were the first to start setting representative time laps, taking first and second place, respectively. Taylor Barnard, who topped FP1 yesterday, trailed behind the Mahindra Formula E Team lineup.
Sébastien Buemi took the lead, as Barnard climbed to P2 ahead of De Vries. Meanwhile, the current championship leader, Pascal Wehrlein, was P7 as Dan Ticktum had a moment in the last corner.
As we reached the halfway point of the session, drivers started to pit and prepare for the last half of the Formula E FP2 session. Once drivers went out again, Da Costa took the lead, but De Vries snatched it back quickly. Meanwhile, Pepe Martí surprised with a time lap that promoted him to P6 as his teammate Ticktum claimed the lead.
Last Minute Improvements
Despite small mistakes, Jean-Éric Vergne delivered a lap that put him in provisional lead of this FP2 in Berlin. With 3 minutes to go, Da Costa bumped Vergne out of the lead as Felipe Drugovich claimed third ahead of Barnard and Günther. Wherlein had a slight touch against the wall on his last lap and wound up just 14th.
Formula E FP2 in Berlin ended with Da Costa leading the grid, followed by Vergne and Drugovich. Meanwhile, Oliver Rowland, reigning World Champion, struggled throughout the whole session, finishing last.
Qualifying session is coming up, and all eyes are set on Da Costa as one of the strongest contenders for pole. Taylor Barnard is another driver to look out for.
