Free Practice 2 in Austin took place in colder weather, completely different from the first day, forcing the riders to carefully manage the grip and track conditions. The wind also presented a challenge for the riders while warming up the tyres.
Bezzecchi Excels in the Early Stages of FP2
Francesco Bagnaia was the first to set an early benchmark, with a 2:02.604, followed by Pedro Acosta and Toprak Razgatlıoğlu. Ai Ogura was the first rider to lose the bike at the apex, but that didn’t impede him from taking part in the session.
Meanwhile, riders started setting more competitive laps with Marco Bezzecchi stealing the first spot with a 2:01.789, ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio. Following yesterday’s crash, Marc Márquez struggled to find the pace during the early stages of Free Practice 2.
The first run ended with Bezzecchi leading the pack, while Márquez struggled. With 13 minutes remaining, Di Giannantonio was the first back on track.
Late Haste Leads to Mistakes
With ten minutes remaining, the FP2 session settled slightly. Following Di Giannantonio, the riders started going out onto the track, but no major improvements were made. However, as time was running out, the pressure and rush appeared.
Both Álex Márquez and Marco Bezzecchi crashed after a miscalculation. As the rest of the riders started their second runs, Marc Márquez set a new fastest lap of 2:01.714.
With less than five minutes remaining, Jorge Martín set the fastest time of the session, with a 2:01.563, ahead of Márquez and Bagnaia’s Ducati. Meanwhile, more drivers went down: this time, Ai Ogura and rookie Diogo Moreira.
With just two minutes left, Bezzecchi came out again, intending to set another time. However, as Free Practice 2 finished, Jorge Martín topped the pack ahead of Márquez and Bagnaia.
