For the first time in his IndyCar career, Sting Ray Robb is remaining with a team for a second campaign. He retained his seat in the No. 77 Juncos Hollinger Racing, and this year he partners with Rinus VeeKay.
During the 2026 IndyCar content days, The Girls Who – Motorsport spoke with Robb about the impact that retaining his seat can have this year. We also discussed how he can improve and how he finds the car’s limit.
Continuity Helps Momentum
For Robb, it’s “nice to come back [for] a second year with the team” because of the continuity it brings. He explained how returning gives him a sense of understanding that everything is “in the right spot”. This leads to being “comfortable before we even arrive at a racetrack”, which then allows them to focus on more important aspects of car development.
He shared that those little things are “time-consuming“, which leads to them making a difference throughout the season. “You don’t want to have to worry” about those areas, and he no longer does as he returns to Juncos Hollinger.
Instead, the pairing can look at the “bigger picture” and have “real hope and real expectations“ for the year ahead. Now they “know where we’re at, and we know what we’re capable of”; that can work on proving that. Continuing the partnership, Robb believes, has allowed them “more time to get to work”.
How Robb and JHR Can Achieve Together
So what work can Robb and Juncos Hollinger do together? They’ll be focusing on “understanding where things went right, where things went wrong, and how do we move forward.” Robb admitted that IndyCar is an “ever-changing environment” that changes “every single weekend”.
Despite the constant adjustments, by reflecting on their previous season to influence 2026, Robb is aiming to “keep working on those weaknesses.” This will help consistency, which, in time, will bring results. “I’m not content with what I’ve done yet.” He shared, but despite that, he did see positive results last year. When it did come together, Robb didn’t work any harder; he just focused on what needed to be done. And he will “keep doing that” and believes that in doing so, “that will lead to the things that we want to achieve.”
And his response to what he wants to achieve this year? “If I said anything other than winning, would I be accepted as a race car driver?”
Finding The Limit
Robb feels as though pushing the car past its limit is “an easy thing to do.” In contrast, “finding the limit is a whole other thing“. As we discussed how to find the limit, he shared that “there are a lot of ways that you can do it wrong, and there’s very few ways you can do it right.”
In his eyes, “the way you approach the limit and how quickly you can get there” is what defines a great driver. And it is something everyone strives for. Occasionally, you can become so in sync with the car that you achieve an “inherent nature of knowing where the limit is.” However, as an adaptable series, Robb shared how the changes race to race make the car a “different animal turn to turn”.
Ultimately, Robb finds the limit through “being comfortable in the seat” and from what he’s “already experienced”. 2026 is his fourth year in IndyCar and second with Juncos Hollinger Racing. He’s hoping the continuity will allow for greater consistency and lead to more positive results.
