Jack Harvey joined American Motorsports in 2017, debuting at the Indianapolis 500 with Meyer Shank Racing. After leaving the series in 2024, last year saw him join the FOX broadcast team as their pit lane reporter. He may not be a permanent fixture on the grid, but he still partakes in the iconic Month of May. During the 2026 content days, The Girls Who – Motorsport spoke to Harvey about how he balances his duties and what he’s taking from last year to improve.

Balancing is About Communication and Respect

Many would assume that balancing dual roles in the month of May would be tricky, but Harvey admitted that it was “super easy”. He went on to explain how there was “a lot of mutual respect between both organisations”, which made it simple for him. This respect came from really good communication and boundaries of when he was working.

In 2025, Harvey joined Dreyer & Reinbold Racing for the iconic race, and he shared how they worked with FOX to make it as easy a process as you could possibly imagine.” The British driver recounted how he switched between the roles: “We did our normal debrief after the race. I said, ‘Bye, see you in Detroit!’” The switch was simple enough, and after focusing on the Indy 500, he was able to zone back into his reporting duties.

He claimed that it came down to the respect shown, explaining how “when people are that reciprocal and show that much respect towards me, I try and do it back. It was a collaborative effort that all three parties worked on making possible.

Don’t Speed in The Pit Lane

With the dual roles working last year, Harvey is repeating it in 2026. He’ll be returning to Dreyer & Reinbold for another go at the Indy 500. Each race is a learning curve, and we asked what Harvey can learn from his first outing with the team to prepare. With a chuckle, he admitted that it was “pretty clear: don’t speed in the pit lane.”

Harvey feels that he “did a pretty good job … just jumping in the car and getting on with it.” Despite that, his downfall came from a small mistake that had big repercussions. He gave us an analysis of his race and explained how he missed his pit box due to not warming his brakes up enough. This led to him going “sailing through” the pits at a “pretty tasty speed”. That delayed his pit stop before receiving a drive-through penalty. The driver admitted it all “compounded a pretty aggressive amount”.

In regard to the team, he believes that although they lacked a little bit of speed in qualifying”, they had a “really solid” race car. This time around, Harvey was announced as their driver earlier in the off-season. This allowed the pairing to have more time working together, and he shared that they’ve been able to “dive into very specific areas with a clear objective.

Whilst actually improving is the “difficult part”, Harvey and DRR have a “very clear idea” of what they need to do in 2026. As he continues to balance his roles between the two teams, Harvey believes that he is “lucky to be a part” of both.
