Only weeks remain until IndyCar returns. But the season has kicked off with their content days. The Girls Who – Motorsport spoke to A. J. Foyt Racing driver Santino Ferrucci ahead of the 2026 IndyCar season. After a turbulent 2025, he’s looking to have a more consistent year.
The Limit Between Qualifying and The Race
To start, we asked how Ferrucci finds the limit in his car. His answer was simple: “You kind of find it when you hit the wall”. There are “many different things” that affect the car, causing it to “move in many different directions”. For A. J. Foyt Racing, they’ve found the Dallara DW12 to be “very front-limited“.
Despite the limitations, Ferrucci and the team are trying to “reverse that and get the rear to come around”. But when it comes to Ferrucci’s outlook, he tries to find the “101 per cent and then dial it back to about 98“. He believes that in 2025, he was able to find that limit during the races. In contrast, he had a “harder time going from 98 to 100”, which is needed in qualifying. And that’s going to be his “focus this season”.
Consistency Is Needed
The biggest takeaway from 2025 for Ferrucci is the need to be consistent. During the first half of the season, A. J. Foyt saw “crew changes with engineering changes”, which led to an inconsistent campaign for the no. 14. This year, however, it’s all “staying the same”—something he believes will lead to a “big step forward”.
Ferrucci shared how the team is “very much ahead” of where they were last year for the car prep. He partners with Caio Collet for the 2026 season, and Ferrucci believes that he will be a “good teammate”. Overall, he thinks these little things will make the year “a little bit less stressful” for both him and the team.
2026 will be Ferrucci’s fourth year with the team, and they’re continually improving. As he focuses on qualifying and consistency, he’s looking forward to another year behind the wheel.
