Kuala Lumpur will be the stage for MotoGP’s 2026 season launch, with the full grid heading to the Malaysian capital on February 6–7 to officially kick off the new season.
The two-day event will bring together all riders, teams, and manufacturers, including newly crowned MotoGP World Champion Marc Márquez and rookie sensation, multiple World Superbike Champion Toprak Razgatlıoğlu. This is where everyone will get the first glimpses of what the 2026 season will bring – from new liveries to team line-ups.
Singapore Plans Shelved
The launch event is set to coincide with preseason testing, with Sepang International Circuit widely expected to host the first full test of the year.
Originally planned for Singapore, the event’s relocation marks a decisive shift by Dorna Sports, MotoGP’s promoter. The change comes after logistical and operational challenges emerged around moving teams and equipment between Sepang and Singapore, which is typically a journey of around four hours by road. The decision ensures a smooth transition from stage to track, allowing riders and teams to stay in one region and keep the focus on preparation, not travel.
Ramping Up The Excitement For Kuala Lumpur
The event is expected to mirror the 2025 season launch in Bangkok, with a backdrop familiar to many.

Over the years, Kuala Lumpur has been a popular choice for team unveilings and sponsor events. With its strong motorsport culture and proximity to Sepang, Kuala Lumpur offers an ideal mix of fan engagement, logistics, and regional marketing potential.
Strengthening MotoGP’s Southeast Asia Presence
By anchoring the launch here, Dorna Sports is doubling down on Southeast Asia’s importance to the championship. The region has become MotoGP’s fastest-growing market, and Malaysia’s fan base, infrastructure, and commercial appeal make it an ideal hub for both testing and marketing.
Following the launch, the grid will turn its attention to the first race of the season at Thailand’s Chang International Circuit in Buriram, scheduled for February 27 to March 1. It will be the opening round of a 22-race calendar, matching the record total from 2025.
The decision to kick-start festivities in Malaysia is intentionally strategic – by aligning MotoGP’s showpiece moments with its most passionate markets. Kuala Lumpur’s blend of energy, accessibility, and cultural relevance gives the championship a dynamic platform to start its new season.
