DS PENSKE left the Mexico City E-Prix with encouraging signs of progress, as the team climbed to sixth in the Teams’ Championship following round two of the 2025/26 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

Racing at the iconic Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, Taylor Barnard delivered his most competitive weekend to date with his new team. The Brit was able to convert his front-row start into a fourth-place finish. The result marked his first points in the DS E-Tense FE25 and underlined his growing confidence within the team.

Barnard Delivers Breakthrough Performance

The Mexico City E-Prix once again lived up to its reputation as one of Formula E’s standout events, with a packed stadium section and a characteristically unpredictable race around the shortened 2.6 km-long circuit.

Barnard showed strong pace throughout the weekend and admitted that a small error in qualifying ultimately cost him the chance to fight for pole position. A small mistake in Qualifying cost me pole position, he explained afterwards, “but starting from the front row and then racing at the front was obviously very positive.”

The 21-year-old remained firmly in the lead group throughout the race, navigating the usual Formula E chaos. Reflecting on the contest, Barnard acknowledged that circumstances could have fallen his way slightly differently. Nevertheless, he remained satisfied with the outcome. “With a bit more luck, maybe one or two positions were possible,” he said, “but fourth place is still a good result and important points for me and the team.”

Late Incident Halts Günther’s Race

On the other side of the garage, Maximilian Günther experienced a weekend that showed strong potential but ended in disappointment. The German felt the car was competitive from the outset, though he struggled to extract the maximum from the tyres in Qualifying. “I couldn’t quite get the tyres into the right window,” he said, “but ninth on the grid was still a decent starting position.”

Günther’s race unfolded positively, as he made early progress, starting from ninth. “The race started really well,” he commented. “I was able to make up positions quickly and manage my energy efficiently.” That momentum was halted late on when a collision, through no fault of his own, sent him into a spin. Günther explains, “I lost more than ten places, and from there it was impossible to recover the result we deserved.” He eventually finished 12th, a result that did not reflect his pace that weekend.

Despite the setback, Günther remained upbeat. “I’m leaving Mexico with a smile,” he added. “The car performance and the enjoyment I felt driving give me a lot of confidence for the future. I’m already looking forward to Miami.”

Momentum Building Ahead of Miami

While the final results told different stories for the two drivers, DS PENSKE left Mexico City with clear positives. The underlying pace of the DS E-Tense FE25, combined with Barnard’s breakthrough points finish, underlines growing momentum early in the season.

With sixth place in the Teams’ Championship after two of 17 races, attention now turns to Miami. A race where DS PENSKE will aim to build on the confidence gained in Mexico City and convert performance into results.
