The 2025 Formula 2 season blessed us once again with incredible action, raw talent and a thrilling battle to the chequered flag in Abu Dhabi. So many drivers this season made their mark in the sport, further driving their journey to Formula 1. In this review, let’s look back at the major events that happened last season!
The fight for the championship was anything but simple
The penultimate race of the F2 season saw Leonardo Fornaroli take the title. However his journey to get there was anything but smooth sailing. While his form was incredible, there were a plethora of other drivers last season who were in contention for that top spot.

By the mid season, the championship looked like it could go any way with Jak Crawford, Alex Dunne and Richard Verschoor leading the charge. Consistency was key and as the rest of the season unfolded, simple errors proved costly.
Leonardo Fornaroli and Luke Browning were two other drivers in contention. Simple mistakes from others, and consistent results from Fornaroli, sealed the deal. Seven podiums by Abu Dhabi, including three race wins; it was no surprise that the F3 championship stole the F2 title.
What of the runners up?
Despite the decider being in Qatar, there were still an impressive five drivers in contention at the time. Víctor Martins took the win for the Qatar Feature Race but finishing P2 secured it for Fornaroli. This left the door open for P2, a worthy runner up in what was an incredible title fight.
Jak Crawford sat as the front runner, with Richard Verschoor, Luke Browning and Alex Dunne still mathematically in contention. The four of them gave an incredible fight last season. The standings ended with Crawford retaining P2, Verschoor P3 and Browning P4, just 13 points separating 2nd and 4th.

The Rookies took centre stage
There were 10 rookies to compete in the 2025 F2 season. Much has already been said about Leonardo Fornaroli – 2024 F3 championship, 2025 F2 champion. Further down the order, a few other rookies also had a very successful seasons.
Alexander Dunne
Alex Dunne immediately made a statement when the season began. His form was impressive, getting two feature race wins in rounds 2 and 4. Dunne was aggressive when he needed to be but handled defensive driving with ease, often pulling off brilliant recovery drives and pitting the pressure on the field.
By the end of the season, small errors were costly. With difficult tracks ending the year, he finished the season P5 on 150 points. Even so, this was still a great result from the Irishman, and showed that he is a talented driver. With numerous podiums under his belt, this rookie F2 season was a great step in his motorsport career.

In 2026, he continues his journey with Rodin Motorsport, looking to repeat previous successes and fight again for that crown.
Arvid Lindblad
The Brit impressed everyone last season. From his maiden F2 win, to records being broken, Arvid Lindblad had an incredible rookie season. He and his teammate had impressive results, including their 1-2 finish in the Jeddah Sprint Race.
Lindblad’s maiden victory in Jeddah came from expert defensive driving the whole race. The win put his name in the history books, making him the youngest ever F2 race winner at 17 years and 254 days old. He also held the record for youngest ever F3 winner so this new record suited him well.
His weekend later in the season in Barcelona was arguably more dominant. He secured his first F2 pole and converted that into a Feature Race win ahead of Sebastián Montoya, the rookies best finish that season.

Arvid Lindblad raced within the Redbull Driver Development Programme and will move up to F1 for the 2026 season, driving for Racing Bulls along side teammate Liam Lawson.
Let’s not forget about the Teams Championship
With all the attention on the drivers, the teams are often overlooked. Throughout the season, numerous teams had great improvements being made, and by the end of the season Invicta Racing retained their championship dominance. It was no surprise that the British team ultimately took the win, with Fornaroli taking the title and his teammate Roman Staněk also having many impressive race finishes last season.
It was a disappointing end of the season for Campos Racing, who had a solid start to the season, looking hopeful of that top spot. Both Lindblad and Pepe Martí worked hard to obtain maximum points for the team, but found themselves in a tight battle with Hitech TGR.
Luke Browning and Dino Beganovic in the Hitech TGR drove hard against the Campos duo to take P2 in the teams championship by Abu Dhabi. Josep Maria Martí was unable to fight to the end, having signed for a seat in Formula E, which caused him to miss the final two races of the 2025 F2 season. In his place was Nikola Tsolov, up from F3, and retains that seat for the 2026 season.
“It’s definitely been our strongest year in F2. Coming in second is nice and it was quite close the whole way through the year, but hopefully we can carry that momentum into 2026 as well” – Team Manager Clive Hatton during a post season interview December 2025
Regardless of Campos Racing falling short, they have many highs from the season to be proud of, including, but not limited to, Arvid Lindblad’s record-breaking win.

A few Major Events from the season
While each race was dramatic and eventful in their own right, the two stand out weekends were the Australian Grand Prix and the Monaco Grand Prix weekends.
A dramatic season-opener
The Australian Grand Prix is often a warm day with plenty of sunshine. However, 2025 bless (or cursed) is with the heaviest downpour that the track has had in a while. The Saturday sprint race allowed very little action, but the drivers were still able to see the chequered flag. Joshua Dürksen took the first win of 2025 in dire circumstances.
By Sunday, the weather had gotten a lot worse. The track was still considerably wet and finally, it was called off by the race directors. It was a disappointing start to the season but set the tone for what drama was yet to come.
Horror car pile-up into Turn 1
Monaco requires constant concentration and allows very little room for error. As the red lights went out and the cars made their way to turn 1, a miscalculation when overtaking caused Alex Dunne and Victor Martins crash into the corner. The way they crashed caused 5 other driver behind them to get caught up, leading to the 7 car pile-up.
The race was red flagged immediately but was red flagged a second time in the race for another collision, which resulted in half points being awarded for the race.

Final Season Take-Aways
The 2025 season was incredible – once again, fans and spectators alike were given a championship battle that looked unpredictable at so many points in the season. The action was phenomenal and the racing lived up to our expectations.
The season showed where improvements need to be made but most teams and drivers are able to take many positives away from last year. We sadly say goodbye to some drivers like Luke Browning and Jack Crawford who focus on different endeavours, but the 2026 season has a lot to live up to.
If you weren’t planning on tuning into the 2026 F2 season, now might be a good time to reconsider, because if it’s non-stop action you’re after, look no further than Formula 2.
