Second Free Practice in that Mexico City E Prix and it was a rather calm session. Even though Buemi dominated the session for most of the time, Wehrlein showed the quickest pace in the end.
Forty minutes of FP2 were on the way with eleven cars taking the track and it seemed to be slippery. It was expected for the drivers to struggle with the tyres temperature as the session took place at 7.30 am in Mexico. Oliver Rowland was the first one to make a time but it was still a warm up lap. Three drivers managed to make their first time lap and Eduardo Mortara made a 1:07.966 time.
Beginning of the issues for some drivers
Da Costa had an issue on his Jaguar with his DCDC converters which prevented him from participating in the session. Josep Maria Martí also had an issue on his Kiro. While some drivers were prevented from racing by their car, Oliver Rowland received a black and white flag for impeding. The 2025 champion however made the fastest time on the clock with a 1:05.788 time despite a strong oversteer in the last corner.
Jake Dennis found himself under investigation for a burnout in the pitlane, something that is now forbidden and cost Pascal Wehrlein his pole position in Sao Paulo. He will probably take a penalty for that move.
Taking away the fastest time
Mid session, twelve of the drivers were in the pit. Sébastien Buemi took first place, 0.487 quicker than Rowland. Both Lola Yamaha drivers might feel comfortable on that track as they both found themselves in the top 10. However, with 13 minutes remaining, Zane Maloney locked his tyres into Turn 1 creating a yellow flag but he managed to regain the track.
With 8 minutes on the clock, Pascal Wehrlein made a great lap, getting closer to the fastest time that Buemi still maintained. Two other yellow flags briefly appeared but without consequences. On the chequered flag, Pascal Wehrlein took first place with a 1:05.141 time. Taylor Barnard also improved, placing himself third. Only one driver seemed in difficulty, Felipe Drugovic, with more than 2 seconds behind Wehrlein’s time.
