If the subject of the “Rookie of the Year” title had been a heated one for weeks, FIA finally gave their verdict. After, Gabriel Bortoleto, Rafael Câmara inherited the title.
The “Rookie of The Year”, introduced in 2014, is part of the FIA Prize Giving Ceremony. The winner is selected amongst drivers who completed their first season in an FIA-sanctioned championship. Which means people tend to forget that this title is not exclusively for Formula 1 drivers, even though it’s one of the most publicized categories. This subject has been alimenting social media for quite some time, with mostly a war between all the Formula 1’s rookie fans, but it is now official : Rafael Câmara is the FIA Rookie of the Year.
Who is Rafael Câmara ?
It is obvious for those who follow the feeder series, but he’s one of those brilliant Brazilian drivers. After Gabriel Bortoleto, Rafael Câmara followed his predecessor’s footsteps by winning the “Rookie of the Year” title. Coming straight from FRECA after winning last year’s championship, he competed in Formula 3 with the Italian team Trident. And we must say that looking at his statistics, we understand why he was the perfect candidate.
Five pole positions, four wins, four fastest laps and five podiums in total. He won the championship with 166 points, 42 points more than his closest rival, Nikola Tsolov. He also won the Formula 3 best rookie title on December 11th. Not present in person in Uzbekistan for the ceremony, his team made a little video announcing he won the trophy.
He declared : “Obviously, I’m very happy. Like I said, I had a great season. I’m happy to have achieved this and I’m looking forward for more to come”. And more to come he will, as he was announced to compete with the Invicta Racing team in the 2026 Formula 2 season.
