While the last season for the Gen3 Evo starts soon, we already know what Gen4 looks like.
In an interview with The Girls Who – Motorsport, DS Penske drivers Maximilian Günther and Taylor Barnard shared their first reactions to the newly revealed car, describing it as a major step forward for Formula E.

Günther described the Gen4 as noticeably larger than the previous car, and an early simulator running suggests a “quite significant” performance gain. According to the German driver, the car demonstrates how far electric race cars have come and represents an important milestone for the championship. He highlights how viewers are going to see “much more of that in the next couple of years in Formula E.”
“Same as me,” new DS Penske teammate Barnard agrees, saying he believes the current Formula E car is comparatively slow for a world championship.
“We’re looking at, like, 10 seconds faster… Pull up faster than the current car, which is actually really insane. So for the fans and for us drivers, it’s going to be a massive step forward… I can’t wait to drive my first laps, but honestly. I’m a little bit scared to jump into it. It’s going to be super, super fast.”
The conversation then turned to the upcoming Gen4 era of Formula E. The drivers discussed their excitement about the new car’s performance improvements and what they’re looking forward to in the next chapter of the series.

Barnard highlighted that, “The downforce is going to be the biggest step up from the current car.” He expects substantially more grip in high-speed corners, although the car’s weight may still make slow-speed sections a “bit of a struggle”.
Günther explained that drivers always want the “fastest possible car” and describes, “What we are doing in Formula E is very exciting in the sense that those cars are so complex.” The older driver said he expects the teams to unlock even more potential as development continues. “I spoke to a few drivers already that have driven the car; it really seems like a lot of fun behind the steering wheel.”
Gen4 will be introduced in the 2026/27 season.
