On Wednesday, 26th November, Mahindra Racing announced their long-term commitment to Formula E and the GEN4 Era. The announcement sees the red livery securing its participation in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship for four additional years.
From the Back to the Podium
Season 11 proved to be strong for Mahindra, and following a promising start during preseason testing in Valencia, Mahindra’s decision to extend their partnership does not come as a shock. In just 18 months, their improvements were apparent to fans when we saw them rise from the back of the grid to fighting for podium finishes.
The launch of their M12Electro will be the next step that they take to continue their fight in the championship battle. Their competitive resurgence will benefit them when the GEN4 Era begins. When asked about Mahindra and their participation in the GEN4 Era, Mr R. Velusamy, Chairman of Mahindra Racing, explains,
”We are proud to champion this future, and GEN4 represents an exciting new chapter for Mahindra Racing and the Mahindra Group.”
Hello to the GEN4 Era
The GEN4 Era marks the start of Formula E’s newest chapter – a testament to the developments of their technology and the evolution of electric cars. The newest developments see a regeneration capacity of up to 700 kW and an increased power output of up to 600 kW. With this, fans can expect to see faster racing whilst maintaining a more energy-efficient race. Mahindra’s commitment to the GEN4 Era confirms them becoming the sixth manufacturer in the sport. Chief Executive Officer of Formula E, Jeff Dodds, speaks on the sport’s progress and Mahindra’s hand in it.
”Mahindra has been with us since the very beginning, consistently championing electric racing and innovation. Their bold vision for sustainable mobility and continued investment in advanced EV technology perfectly align with Formula E’s mission.”
Why This Decision Matters
This partnership is an important one. Mahindra Racing has been a long-established part of this sport, making its debut in Season 1 alongside Formula E’s first season. Its long-term presence in the sport is confirmation of their confidence in the sport and what they can do for its development. Reflecting on Mahindra Racing’s input in the sport, the team principal of Mahindra Racing, Frederic Bertrand, expresses his thoughts.
”Their enthusiasm for ‘Scream Electric’ is hugely inspiring to the whole team, and we will continue to represent them with pride in this next exciting chapter of our Formula E story in the coming years.”
Outside of Formula E, Mahindra’s brand credibility is strengthened. They are slowly increasing India’s involvement in future EVs as they lead the journey to a more global and sustainable mobility.
It will be exciting to see how Mahindra does in the future. This is your reminder that Formula E is back this weekend!
