Following the success of Season 1, Amazon Prime’s Formula E: Driver returns for Season 2 on Friday, the 28th of November. This time, the four-part series will focus on Season 11 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. With the perfect blend of on-track action and off-track chaos, viewers are in for a treat with behind-the-scenes footage.

The Stars for Formula E: Driver

The cameras are set to follow five of our promising talents in the world’s fastest-accelerating sport. Porsche Formula E teammates Pascal Wehrlein and António Félix da Costa make their return, whilst Taylor Barnard makes his debut in the series. Fellow Brits Dan Ticktum and Oliver Rowland conclude the final five, and the on- and off-track action begins!

Episode Breakdown

The season opens with a focus on newly crowned race winner, Dan Ticktum. Finding his momentum with CUPRA KIRO this season, the journey to success proved to be anything but smooth. When the pressures of proving his place in the sport mix with team errors during crucial race days, the British star’s fiery temperament can strike as a concern. Ticktum has increasingly become a fan favourite during his reign in the all-electric sport, and his unfiltered side seems to be drawing fans in. When reflecting on the documentary, Ticktum admires the raw nature of it. He explains,

”What I love about this series is it doesn’t sugarcoat anything. I’ve never been one to hold back, so fans will get the full picture – the good, the bad, and everything in between.”

Next, viewers get an insight into our reigning world champion, Oliver Rowland’s, campaign for the crown. He is fighting his way around one of the most iconic tracks in motorsport history. Rowland’s stint in Monaco is where he proved to be a contender. Finally, his persistence and determination pay off, but it did not come with ease. The exploration of emotional depth follows Rowland’s storyline, where a personal loss shifts his season.

”Season 11 was one of the toughest but most rewarding of my career. Fans will see the grind, the setbacks, and the belief that keeps you chasing the dream.”Oliver Rowland, Nissan Formula E Team driver.

The British Rookie

Rising star Taylor Barnard is featured in the new season of Formula E: Driver. His rookie season with McLaren, before they depart from Formula E, brings a reminder that the next generation is here. From his first laps to his most memorable podiums, Barnard is celebrated in this upcoming series. We see a head-to-head battle with fellow Brit, Dan Ticktum, at the Jakarta E-Prix and how both drivers react to the results. Barnard expresses his excitement about season 11.

”Season 11 was huge for me – a chance to learn, grow, and prove myself against some of the best drivers in the world. The series shows the intensity, the rivalries, and the passion behind every lap.”

Whilst their battles on track were exhilarating to witness, an equally intense off-track rivalry spurred between Porsche teammates Pascal Wehrlein and António Félix da Costa. This season exposes the crack within the team and how both drivers deal with the intensity of it. Speaking about his return to Formula E: Driver, da Costa explains,

”Last year pushed me harder than ever – physically, mentally, emotionally – and most of that journey happened far from the spotlight.”

From Fans to Family: Why Formula E: Drive Is So Important

Whilst the drivers present themselves with a serious, determined exterior due to such an intense season, Formula E: Drive is a great way to showcase the personality. The cameras capture genuine reactions for fans to see, avoiding a scripted nature to the documentary. With viewing numbers increasing, a second season allows the global audience to learn more about the people behind the helmets. The TV Show is an opportunity for the sport to connect with the new fans ahead of Season 12.

Jon Alwen, Formula E: Driver Executive Producer and Astronaut Films CEO, states,

”We’re thrilled to be throwing our audience back into the Formula E paddock for a second season. We wanted to give viewers a seat in the heart of the garages and take them even closer to the action and the Formula E drivers than ever before.”

Season 2 promises to be one that is remarkable. Tune in to Amazon Prime to catch up with Season 1 and start Season 2 of Formula E: Driver.
