Formula E continued its preparation for the 2025 season ahead of the opening race in December. Sessions two and three provided new insights into performance, reliability and race simulations. Here is how the day unfolded.
Bring on Session Number 2
Mahindra delivered the strongest showing in the second session of the day. Edoardo Mortara moved to the top of the timesheet within the first 30 minutes and remained a leading presence throughout running.
- Edoardo Mortara – Mahindra Racing
- Nyck De Vries – Mahindra Racing
- Jake Dennis – Andretti Formula E
- Pascal Wehrlein – Porsche Formula E Team
- Nico Muller – Porsche Formula E Team
- Dan Ticktum – Cupra Kiro
- Taylor Barnard – DS Penske
- Sebastien Buemi – Envision Racing
- Nick Cassidy – Citroën Racing
The session concluded with a Mahindra one-two. De Vries finished only 0.05 seconds behind Mortara. The team has demonstrated clear gains from last season. Mahindra will hope to translate this one-lap performance into stronger race pace as the week continues.
Drugovich vs. Track Limits
Felipe Drugovich showed encouraging progress throughout the day as he continues to settle into the Andretti setup. He recorded a 1:24.418 in Session One without using attack mode. His pace improved further in Session Two, where he briefly held the position of fastest rookie in the midfield. However, his best lap was deleted due to a track limits infringement. The potential remains clear, and Andretti will be encouraged by his adaptation.
Red Flag for Rowland
The second session ended early when reigning champion Oliver Rowland stopped on track after an incident at the final corner. Nissan confirmed that Rowland was unhurt after he walked back to the pit lane. The team will investigate the issue and apply the necessary adjustments ahead of further sessions. It was a frustrating interruption to his running, but the data gathered earlier in the day remains useful.
Session 3 Strikes Chaos
Session Three began with a full mock race. This simulation allowed teams to practice operational procedures such as safety car restarts and driving under Full Course Yellow conditions. Mortara crossed the line first in the exercise, which continued the strong momentum he and Mahindra established earlier in the day.
Top 10 of Session 3
Once the mock race was completed, standard testing resumed. A competitive on-track exchange between former teammates Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy created an exciting highlight. Cassidy briefly moved ahead of Evans to take third position. However, neither driver remained at the top once Dan Ticktum set the fastest time later in the session.
- Dan Ticktum – Cupra Kiro
- Nico Müller – Porsche Formula E Team
- Taylor Barnard – DS Penske
- Mitch Evans – Jaguar TCS Racing
- Pascal Wehrlein – Porsche
- Nick Cassidy – Citroën Racing
- Jake Dennis – Andretti
- Maximilian Günther – DS Penske
- Jean-Éric Vergne – Citroën Racing
- Pepe Martí – Cupra Kiro
This result marked a very positive achievement for rookie Pepe Martí. He kept pace with drivers who have far more experience with their cars, which indicates strong potential for the season ahead.
Fastest Driver of the Day
Despite Ticktum’s success in Session Three, the fastest lap of the day belonged to Mortara. He completed a 1:21.493 during Session Two. His speed has positioned Mahindra as a primary contender at this stage of pre-season preparations.
Stay tuned for Session Four tomorrow. Only one practice session will take place, but there is still plenty to learn. Many eyes will be on whether any team can close the gap to Mahindra at the front.
