The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship has experienced a wave of global growth this year. In Season 11, television viewership has increased, social media interactions have grown, and fans globally are engaging with the championship as never before. The series has already exceeded an impressive 500 million total viewers, solidifying its status as one of the quickest-growing sports.

Mexico City Sets New Benchmarks

The series’ record-breaking performance was highlighted by Round 2 in Mexico City in January. The race weekend drew a cumulative global audience of 44 million. This is manifesting it as the event with the highest single-race TV audience in Formula E history. In the United States, CBS coverage of the same race alone attracted 11 million viewers. This established a new benchmark for Formula E broadcasts in the country and significantly outperformed competing green motorsport events.

Digital audiences have also shown this growth, with social video views up 13% year-on-year and engagement up 12%. The social media following alone has risen by 10%, according to Emplifi. These figures underline the expanding and highly interactive global community of Formula E fans seen trackside.

Thrilling Racing Captivates Fans Worldwide

Season 11 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, which began in São Paulo in December 2024 and culminated in London at the end of July this year, has showcased some of the most thrilling racing in motorsport. Not to miss the Jeddah double-header. The green racing event in Rounds 3 and 4 drew a staggering 65 million total viewers. This marks Jeddah as the most-watched Formula E weekend in history. Even in a “slow” race like Monaco, Round 8, we saw viewership rise by 25% compared to the previous season. The following race weekend, Tokyo’s Round 9 recorded the largest Formula E TV audience in Japan.

Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E, said the figures were “truly phenomenal” and a reflection of the sport’s extraordinary momentum. He highlighted that Formula E is not only showcasing world-leading technology and acceleration. No, it’s also producing some of the best, most competitive racing that old and new fans can’t get enough of.

Dodds emphasised that the championship is building fan loyalty in both established and emerging markets. Mexico and the US both serve as examples of this. As the world’s fastest-growing motorsport, we know we can’t stand still, he added. We need to continue offering the best racing, the best rivalries, and the most inclusive events to maintain our steep growth and foster a strong community of electric super fans.

From Motorsport to Cultural Phenomenon

The growth of Formula E‘s fan base is also reshaping the way people experience the sport. For some, being a fan is about the rush of the on-track battles and the thrill of last-minute overtakes. For others, it is the feeling of connection within a lively online community. Or the collective enthusiasm for sustainable innovation that provides significance to the fandom.

This variety in fan interaction with the sport is fostering a more united and dedicated worldwide audience. It emphasises that following Formula E is no longer just a singular experience. This is an individual experience, distinctive for each fan.
