Who Is Joel Eriksson?

Joel Eriksson’s racing career began in 2007 with karting – quickly progressing to junior formulas. 2017 marks the season that really put Eriksson on the map – finishing second in the championship behind current Formula 1 driver Lando Norris. Instead of graduating to Formula 2, Eriksson takes his next step in his racing career by joining the DTM series.

With years of experience in different racing styles, Joel Eriksson brings adaptability to Envision’s lineup. This could be pivotal and a game-changer for Envision Racing’s championship dreams.

First Touch of Electricity

Moving up the Formula E ladder, the Swede’s journey began in 2018, making his first mark in the Marrakesh Rookie Test with DS Virgin Racing. He quickly showed his ability to adapt to new settings – especially the intensity of the electric cars. By the end of the week, Eriksson finished 9th on the timesheet, catching the eyes of teams across the paddock and establishing his name in the world of Formula E.

Eriksson stepped into the spotlight during the 2019-20 season, when Dragon Racing named him their reserve driver. His testing results proved invaluable to the team, helping them tune their car for the season ahead.

Rookie Testing to Point Scorer

Soon after, Eriksson made his official race debut at the Puebla E-Prix, replacing Nico Müller. Over the course of eight races, we began to see why Eriksson was first pick for the Envision seat. He achieved his best finish in the London E-Prix, finishing 10th and securing his first point in Formula E.

During Season 10, Eriksson returned to Formula E as Jaguar TCS Racing’s official reserve driver. Called to fill for Robin Frijns at the Berlin E-Prix, the double header was a successful stint for Joel. A memorable comeback for the Swedish driver as he finished in 9th place, scoring points that ended Envision Racing’s long-standing points drought.

Garage Eyes and Fan Predictions

What can we expect from the Swedish star in his debut season?

Fans are eager to see how Joel Eriksson will settle into his seat in a new racecraft. Though he is no stranger to the unpredictability of Formula E, will Eriksson keep his cool under new pressures? This debut season will be a chance for Eriksson to challenge other powerhouse teams – the championship hunt is on.
