Jaguar TCS Racing has confirmed former NEOM McLaren boss Ian James will succeed James Barclay as Team Principal, marking a new chapter for the Formula E team.
Barclay departs to join McLaren’s endurance / LMDh programme after over a decade leading Jaguar’s motorsport and Formula E efforts. James, having steered both Mercedes‑EQ and McLaren’s FE operations, brings a wealth of proven experience with a 100% success rate in the electric single‑seater space.
James led Mercedes-EQ from 2019 to 2022, where he led the team to claiming multiple championships, and then managed NEOM McLaren before their departure.
“I’m incredibly proud to be joining Jaguar – a brand with a unique history of technical innovation through racing and now with an exciting all-electric future ahead of it. To be able to lead the talented team at Jaguar TCS Racing to fight for success on-track while pioneering EV development through competition will be a privilege.” – Ian James
With the team coming together for Season 12, James’ invite as team principal marks an integral part of building a brand-new Jaguar TCS Racing Team.
Mitch Evans remains with the team for Season 12; however, star driver and fellow Kiwi Nick Cassidy departed the team after three seasons to join the newest addition to FE: Citroën Racing.
Meanwhile, the open number two seat is heavily rumored to be occupied by former TAG Heuer Porsche driver António Félix da Costa.
Former team principal James Barclay believes that the team is in good hands with the ex-NEOM McLaren boss and walks away with a sense of pride in what they have built together at Jaguar.
“I can step away really proud of what we’ve achieved as a group and what I’ve achieved leading them, and I’ve worked really hard to set the foundation to the future here, both for GEN4 and for next season, I think the team is in a great place for next season and beyond.” – James Barclay
Jaguar secured first place in the Team Championship in Season 11. With a leadership rebrand and a fresh driver lineup on the horizon, how far can Ian James’ guidance take them in the championship contention for the 2025-26 season?
