Citroen Racing is the newest team on the Formula E grid; the French company joins as a manufacturer for Season 12, replacing Maserati MSG Racing.
On September 16, 2025, the team confirmed a powerhouse driver line-up featuring Jean-Éric Vergne, the sport’s only two-time champion, and Nick Cassidy, one of the most exciting and consistent performers in recent seasons.
Citroen’s History
A prominent name in motorsports, Citroen has participated and succeeded in:
- 4 Paris Dakar Rally’s
- FIA World Rally Championship
- Eight WRC Manufacturers’ titles
- Three FIA World Touring Car Championship Drivers’ titles
- Three WTCC Teams’ World Championship victories
- FIA Cross-Country Rally World Cup
With a decorated history to its name, the French team turns to the all-electrical racing series, marking their first trip to open-wheel racing. Citroën describes its Formula E campaign as “an electric, innovative and passionate adventure” that aligns with its vision and values for electric automobiles.
“Citroën is returning to motorsport, an arena that shaped its history and legend – motorsport in its most visionary form: an 100% electric, responsible and committed competition with popular races in the heart of cities, a young, committed, connected audience and a technological, international showcase for the future of mobility.”
Driver Line-Up
On September 16, 2025, the team announced its star-studded driver line featuring the likes of former Jaguar racing driver Nick Cassidy and the only back-to-back Formula E champion and former DS PENSKE driver, Jean-Eric Vergne.
Jean-Eric Vergne
At 35, Jean-Éric Vergne brings a wealth of experience — both in Formula E and endurance racing. A homegrown French talent, Vergne’s connection with Citroën feels fitting, especially as he returns to a French factory setup following his time with DS PENSKE.
He secured two titles during his debut in Season 4 and Season 5, making him the only driver to do so till today. He’s currently competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship with PEUGEOT TotalEnergies, making him one of the few drivers bridging top-level electric and endurance racing simultaneously.
“JEV is more than just a quick driver, he’s a technical asset. He understands how to build a team, develop a car, and win titles. Citroën couldn’t ask for a better leader for their debut season.”
Nick Cassidy
The 31-year-old driver from New Zealand swiftly established himself as a consistent frontrunner in Formula E. In the last two seasons with Jaguar TCS Racing, he finished third in Season 10 and second in Season 11.
Cassidy will also race with PEUGEOT TotalEnergies in the WEC alongside his FE duties, just like Vergne, adding endurance expertise to his résumé and aligning with Stellantis’ broader motorsport vision.
“Cassidy is a future world champion — it’s not a matter of ‘if’, but ‘when’. He brings speed, intelligence, and calm under pressure,” said a former teammate.
The mighty line-up of two highly experienced drivers goes on to show how the team looks to reinstate their value in Formula E right from the start.
More information, including the team name, livery reveal, and technical details, will be announced on Monday, October 20.
