Formula 1 heads into its final race before summer break at the Hungaroring in Budapest: Hungary, from August 1st – August 3rd, 2025, joined by Formula 2 and Formula 3.

The penultimate point of the season where drivers will give it their all to put themselves, and their teams in a positive position before the 3-week long summer break and second half of the season.

Track Overview and History

Built in 1985, the Hungaroring held its first Grand Prix in 1986 with a track length of 4.381 km. Known for its narrow layouts and minimal overtaking opportunities, the Hungaroring is labeled as ‘Monaco without the walls.’

This makes Saturday’s qualifying session extremely crucial. The track’s narrow and twisty layout includes one DRS zone on the main straight with a series of medium- to low-speed corners.

This makes it extra challenging for drivers who find themselves qualifying outside the top 10, because of traffic. A strong and clean lap on Saturday is what most teams will be aiming for, making execution crucial.

This weekend will also mark a close midfield battle between Haas, currently at 35 points and Aston Martin, currently at 36 points in the Constructors Championship.

Tyre Choices and Weather Forecast

Pirelli confirmed that teams will go racing with the same tyre lineup used in Austria—the three softest slick compounds, which include C3, C4 and C5. The track’s twisty layout places less stress on tyres, making the softer compounds a suitable choice.

The current forecast suggests hot and dry conditions across all three days — though teams will monitor wind direction closely, as the circuit’s elevation changes can exaggerate balance shifts.

Teammate Battles

This track is also the home of current Championship leader Oscar Piastri’s maiden win. After a difficult battle with teammate Lando Norris and strategy calls made by the team, the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix was an internal curfuffle for McLaren.

Piastri, who had jumped Norris at the start, was running ahead until the pit stops. However, McLaren opted to pit Norris first, giving him the undercut and track position over Piastri — who later expressed frustration over the strategy.

Many felt Piastri had the stronger race pace and was somewhat “undercut” by his own team’s call. McLaren defended the decision as a result of race circumstances, but it was the first notable moment of potential friction between the two young talents.

Colapinto to Continue with Alpine

Alpine driver Franco Colapinto will head into this weekend as Alpine’s second driver after a tricky start, Colapinto’s future with the team had a big question mark. However, the team announced the driver will race with the team in Hungary.

Meanwhile, Reserve Driver Paul Aron and Franco Colapinto will step into the car next week in Hungary for the tyre development test.

Alongside Formula 1, Formula 2 and Formula 3 also head into their final race in Hungary before summer break.

Alex Dunne claimed another Formula 2 victory in Belgium last week. However, a penalty led to Dunne’s victory being confiscated by the FIA as he received a 10-second penalty for a procedural breach at the start of the race; pushing the driver from first place to ninth. This made Leonardo Fornaroli the new Championship leader, pushing Dunne fourth in standings.

As Formula 3 nears its end, Rafael Câmara leads the Drivers’ Championship with 126 points, and his team Trident leads the Teams’ Championship. Nikola Tsolov sits behind Câmara at second place with 98 points.
