With only three races remaining before the wrap of the 2025 Formula 3 season, The Girls Who Eat, Breathe and Dream Motorsport decided to do a recap of the season so far.
Before the beginning of the season, when the grid was announced, everyone had certain expectations from the drivers and the teams. But with a title fight far from being over, even though Rafael Câmara is leading the championship with a 27 points lead, some of them came and surprised everyone with their results. Others are performing as expected, while some seem to struggle. Let’s analyse to try and predict who can win the championship in 2025.
No other outcome for Rafael Câmara
It was not a surprise for everyone who followed FRECA last year, that the Brazilian driver would be fighting at the front. Already compared by some to his fellow countryman Gabriel Bortoleto, it is not less than four pole positions, four podiums and three feature race wins under his belt in his rookie season. His worst weekend was in Silverstone, leaving with only three points. Serious title contender since the start after pulling amazing race weekends, his team Trident even went as far as establishing team order to his teammate Charlie Wurz to help him. Leaving Prema Racing definitely was the right choice for his career, especially when we look at where they are. No doubt that even if he loses the championship at the end of the season, a Formula 2 seat should be waiting for him in 2026.

Expected more from Noel León
With the great season he had last year, Noel León was clearly one of the favorites for the title this year. However, he has had a rather quiet season. With only one podium and a seventeenth place in the standing before Spa-Francorchamps, it’s not the season we imagine he would have had. Seeing the form of Prema Racing in the series this year, one can wonder if it’s truly the fault of the Mexican driver. Although the questions whether he lacks the rhythm or struggles to adapt remain, hopefully he can bounce back and show his true talent before the end of 2025.
Third time a charm for Nikola Tsolov?
The biggest surprise of the season is without a doubt the Bulgarian driver. Often criticized in the past for some dangerous moves, he seems to be a new driver this year. He has always been quick, but the combination with his much more mature drive is a delight to watch. Money has been an issue to go further in his career, but now within the RedBull Junior Academy, we can very much see him fill-in a Campos seat in Formula 2 next year. He is still in the fight for the championship, with only 29 points behind Câmara before Spa-Francorchamps, with his worst weekend unironically also being in Silverstone. Can he, against all odds, finally claim the title as his own?

Van Amersfoort Racing as the outsider
Entering their fourth season in Formula 3, they’ve never been higher in the standings than this year. Having a solid driver line-up (Théophile Naël, Santiago Ramos and Ivan Domingues) and six podiums before Spa-Francorchamps, VAR can definitely aim for a top three finish. An unexpected place for them to be, especially when they are in front of big names such as ART Grand Prix, Hitech TGR and even Prema Racing. A solid proof that hard work pays off.
Campos Racing vs Trident for the team championship
Trident is a regular client fighting at the front of the Formula 3 grid. However, Campos Racing is the team battling with them this year. With a two points lead, it’s the first time that the Spanish team has been leading the championship. After two fourths place, a solid line-up and a possible help from the Formula 2 part of the team, it’s a massive improvement for them. With one driver respectively fighting for the championship, their teammates are going to have a huge impact.
For Trident, Noah Strømsted had a strong beginning of the season but now seems to struggle, while Charlie Wurz has had a more inconsistent one. It’s the opposite for Campos, with Mari Boya having a weak couple of races but now regaining some form, and Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak also having a mixed season but taking his first win in the Silverstone sprint race. But if Trident keeps going with their team orders, it can at some point, cost them the championship.
ART Grand Prix has a problem
The long lasting rival of Prema Racing, seems to have a similar problem to the Italian team. With two talented drivers such as Tuukka Taponen and Laurens van Hoepen, and a more unreliable one as James Wharton, who sometimes can make a stroke of brilliance, on paper they had everything to succeed. But they seem to struggle a lot with pace, especially during races. A shame when they successfully managed to take away two of the Ferrari Academy drivers, who belonged to their strongest rivals in FRECA. It doesn’t give credit to their talent, and will most likely result in them staying in Formula 3 next year.

To give a little prediction, I believe Rafael Câmara will take the title nonetheless in the last race in Monza. However, it will be very close with Nikola Tsolov. As for the team championship, Campos Racing will take it with at least a thirty points lead.
