The final practice session of the Austrian Grand Prix got off to a slow start, with only three lap times on the board after the opening 10 minutes.
Hard tyres seemed to be the unpopular choice in the heat, but Max Verstappen showcased impressive pace despite being the only driver running them at the time—his lap was second only to Lando Norris.
A dip into gravel for McLaren, and some last minute spins for the rest
McLaren faced a scare as Oscar Piastri ran wide into the gravel at Turn 9. The team had to tape his floor back together in the pits, but the quick fix proved effective, allowing the Australian to clock the second-fastest time of the session.
Isack Hadjar suffered a spin in a near-identical spot to Fernando Alonso’s incident in FP2. The rookie managed to recover without damage, though the lap was compromised, and he ended the session in P20.
In the final minutes, a flurry of incidents brought brief yellow flags as several drivers, including Yuki Tsunoda, Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, and Franco Colapinto, spun at various points around the circuit. As the dust settled, both McLarens emerged on top—Norris finishing ahead of Piastri to close out a promising session for the Woking team.
