The second session of the day for MotoGP was the Practice, securing 10 drivers a automatic spot in Q2. It proved to be a mixed result for many teams, with some handling the corners of Aragon better than others.
Marquez Domination
It was once again the two Marquez brothers that topped the timing table. The Ducati rider Marc Marquez looking untouchable this afternoon in Aragon, quickly claiming the fastest lap within the first 20 minutes of the session and only improving from there. His brother Alex showed his dominance on the Gresini bike, securing second overall only 0.204 seconds behind the Ducati. Their teammates Aldeguer and Bagnaia finished 8th and 9th respectively, securing their place in Q2 as well.
Disaster for Yamaha
Not a single Yamaha found it’s way into the top 10, meaning the riders need to find better luck in Qualifying if they want to progress to Q2 tomorrow. The session was particularly difficult for back to back pole sitter Fabio Quartararo, who struggled getting the most out of his bike and keeping balance. A disappointing practice result for the Frenchman, who only managed to go 18th fastest having made numerous mistakes on his flying lap. After securing Pole in Silverstone, he will be hoping to turn things around in tomorrows Qualifying session. His teammate Alex Rins did not fare any better, finishing P15.
Strong session for KTM
The KTM teams overall looked strong in today the Aragon practice session today, with Maverick Viñales, Pedro Acosta and Brad Binder all making it into the top 10 and advancing to Q2. Acosta and Viñales looked particularly strong during the session, maintaining their position in the top 10 throughout the entire session. After Acostas more disappointing qualifying at the British Grand Prix in P14, a secured top 10 start will be better for the Spaniard.
Problems for Morbidelli
Franco Morbidelli suffered technical issues during about half way through the session, when smoke was seen spewing from the rear of his bike. The Italian was able to get the bike back to the pit lane and he continued the session with only one bike. Despite this incident, he was able to improve upon his lap times and take the final spot straight to Q2.
With Marc Marquez setting the fastest time of the session, a 1:46.397, it seems that he will continue this dominance into qualifying tomorrow. But time will tell to see if anyone can get near him
