In a closely fought Formula 2 qualifying session, Arvid Lindblad stole the spotlight by securing his maiden pole position with a stunning lap time of 1:25.180 for Campos Racing. The 16-year-old British driver was in top form, setting the fastest time in every sector during the final minutes.
Leonardo Fornaroli Sets the Early Benchmark
Initially, Lindblad’s blistering pace was challenged by Leonardo Fornaroli of Invicta Racing. The Italian driver topped the early timesheets with a 1:27.755. As the track conditions improved and the field headed out for their final runs, the lap times started to fall, reshuffling the order.
Dunne and Maini Join the Fight for Pole
Alexander Dunne briefly held the top spot with a 1:25.905 for Rodin Motorsport before Lindblad’s perfectly executed lap put him back on top. The battle for pole position was fierce, with Kush Maini narrowly missing out by just 0.018 seconds. The Indian driver secured the second place, underlining Invicta Racing’s impressive pace.
Montoya and Browning Impress Late On
Sebastian Montoya delivered a strong lap in the final minutes to grab third place, just ahead of Luke Browning, who staged a remarkable recovery from P13 to finish fourth. The Hitech Pulse-Eight driver timed his final push perfectly when the track was at its best.
Miyata, Crawford, and Dunne Round Out the Front Runners
Another standout performer was Ritomo Miyata, who placed his ART Grand Prix car in fifth, ahead of Jak Crawford and Dunne. Despite briefly running second, Dunne slipped down the order as lap times improved and may face further setbacks due to three separate grid penalties this weekend.
Verschoor Finishes Inside the Top Ten
Richard Verschoor completed the top ten, finishing just ahead of Zane Maloney, Joshua Dürksen, and Fornaroli, who had led early in the session. The Dutch driver will start from sixth place, maintaining a strong grid position ahead of several direct competitors.
Staněk and Esterson Miss Out in Final Shake-Up
Roman Staněk made a late charge and provisionally went fourth, but as more competitive times came in, he slipped down the order. Meanwhile, Max Esterson and others who went for late runs struggled to break into the top group as tyre preparation and track timing became crucial in the rising heat.
Split Strategy Shapes the Session
Early in the session, there was a noticeable split in strategy, with half the field staying in the pits while the rest took to the track. As temperatures soared it became critical to get the tyres into the optimal operating window. Those who waited were rewarded with better conditions in the closing minutes.
All Eyes on Lindblad Ahead of the Feature Race
With the grid now set, all attention turns to Arvid Lindblad. If his qualifying form is any indication, the Campos Racing rookie could be on the verge of a breakthrough weekend. Will he be able to convert this into a maiden victory?
