Formula 2: Barcelona Practice Sets the Tone for a Thrilling Weekend

The schedule is packed for F2 under the sunny skies of Barcelona. After a calm practice session for Formula 3, Formula 2 took to the track for Round 6 of the 2025 season – one of the closest yet, with only 14 points separating the top five in the Drivers’ Championship, currently led by Luke Browning.

After completing their installation laps, all drivers returned to the pits, waiting for optimal conditions. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is a familiar venue, frequently used for testing, so confidence is already high among both drivers and teams.

With 30 minutes on the clock, drivers began heading out on track, led by Joshua Duerksen. Richard Verschoor was the first to set a representative time of 1:28.044, but Alexander Dunne quickly responded with a 1:27.425 – 0.619 seconds faster than Verschoor.

Dunne’s weekend didn’t start the way he would have hoped. He needed a productive practice and a strong qualifying session – not only because he lost the lead in the championship, but also due to a 10-place grid penalty earned in last weekend’s feature race in Monaco. The Irish driver later on in the session locked up on pit entry and tapped the rear of Victor Martins’ car. The two did not part on good terms in Monaco, and their weekend in Barcelona hasn’t started any better.

Arvid Lindblad went fastest with 13 minutes left in the session, setting a benchmark time of 1:27.147, giving hope to his teammate and home favourite Pepe Martí, who was sitting in P14 at the time.

As the session ticked down and the rubber built up on track, drivers continued to push hard, but no major improvements hit the timesheets.

Next up is F2 Barcelona qualifying at 15:55 local time. All eyes will be on the Spanish team Campos Racing and their home driver, Pepe Martí, as they aim to get ahead of the field and fight for a podium. However, qualifying promises to be as tight as ever, with fierce competition and lap times closer than ever.
