In partnership with the “Barbagiuans de Monaco”, more than twenty drivers or motorsport personalities will reunite on the field on May 21st in Monaco. The main purpose? Collect money for two important associations.
For more than thirty years, a football match reunites professional players and other personalities in Monaco, a couple of days before the Formula 1 Grand Prix, to gather money for an association. After it was cancelled last year for personal matters, this match is now back under a new name: Racing Stars Football Cup.
Presentation of the teams
Organised by Louis Ducruet, nephew of Sovereign Prince Albert II, two teams will oppose each other. The Barbagiuans and StarsTeam, composed of international football players such as Ludovic Giuly, Flavio Roma or Gaël Givet and other sportsmen like the MMA fighter Benoît Saint Denis. A first in this match’s history to include other disciplines, which pleased the President of the event : “I believe it’s important to think outside the box and integrate other high-level athletes into the team. This initiative is part of our development”.
Their opponent will be the Nazionale Piloti Team, composed of various French celebrities but most importantly, famous motorsport faces. Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz, Pierre Gasly, Isack Hadjar, Kimi Antonelli, Oliver Bearman, Fernando Alonso, Thierry Neuville, Dorian Boccolacci, Norman Nato, Stefano Domenicali and so many more will all play together to try and take the win. The objective is to make this event friendly, to reunite personalities that don’t often meet each other and for fans to see a one-of-a-kind event.
Not one but two
Two associations will receive the donations of this match. The first one is BE SAFE Monaco, directed by Camille Gottlieb, the aim is to raise awareness about the danger of drunk driving. Even though the match is in Monaco, alcohol and driving is an international subject. Something that the founder of the association is aware of : “It is the occasion to raise awareness about this subject not only in Monaco, but to a wider audience.”
The second one is the Jules Bianchi Association. Created after the passing of the Formula 1 driver Jules Bianchi by his father, Philippe Bianchi, it helps finance better equipment for the hospital where Jules spend his last moments. While being there, they realised the lack of suitable materials for the patients and decided to act. Having this match to help the association is an emotional moment for its president : “This initiative is particularly close to my heart, as the match will bring together several F1 drivers alongside the Monaco Grand Prix, which Jules particularly enjoyed. I thank the Barbagiuans, the president, and the entire team for their kindness and symbolic gesture, which will allow us to continue our work.”
The match will start at 3pm in the Louis II Stadium in Monaco. The ticket cost only 10 euros. You can also donate directly on the website.
