First time on track for the twenty two drivers in Formula E during that Free Practice 1. Nick Cassidy takes first place, in front of Antonio Felix da Costa and Taylor Barnard.

Free Practice 1 was the first time for the drivers to take the track, as the shakedown was cancelled due to a huge downpour a few hours earlier. As the sun was back in Miami, Jake Dennis and Nico Mueller dominated the field early in the session. As the time passed, drivers became comfortable and Lucas di Grassi broke a time under the 1:24. A misunderstanding between the TAG Heuer Porsche drivers could have been dramatic, as Antonio Felix da Costa closed the door on his teammate Pascal Wehrlein, when he tried to pass him. Luckily, the contact was avoided.

Oliver Rowland went to explore the grass as he was coming too quickly before the turn. Sebastien Buemi was not happy with his Envision Racing car, which he described as undriveable. On the contrary, Nick Cassidy was comfortable and set the fastest lap of the session, in 1:23.785, setting the fastest two last sectors. Antonio Felix da Costa is second with only a 0.113 seconds difference, followed closely by Taylor Barnard and Mitch Evans in fourth.
