Motorsport is entering a new era of data analysis and fan engagement as Formula E collaborates with Google Cloud and Infosys to introduce two groundbreaking AI-driven innovations. With the launch of Driver Agent and the AI-powered Stats Centre, technology is reshaping both driver performance and the way fans experience the sport.

Driver Agent: AI Coaching for Drivers

Formula E and Google Cloud introduce Driver Agent, an exciting AI tool designed to help drivers unlock their full potential. With the capabilities of Vertex AI technology and Gemini from Google Cloud’s, Driver Agent simplifies important race data like lap times, speed, braking capability, acceleration, G-forces, and downforce to provide personalized real-time feedback. With text and voice instructions, the system allows drivers to perfect their abilities both on and off the track.

Breaking Down Obstacles

Previously, advanced data analysis has been something reserved for a select few that have the resources and right people behind them. Driver Agent is disrupting that trend, giving each driver—background aside—the analytics they need to hone their race craft. Aspiring talents now have access to the same type of coaching enjoyed by top stars using AI-led analysis, thanks to which ability is what becomes the driving factor, not costs.

Formula E has always been a platform for innovation, and we are thrilled to partner with Google Cloud to push the boundaries of what’s possible when you combine world-class technology with world-class motorsport,

said Beth Paretta, VP of Sporting of Formula E,

“By developing and offering these cutting-edge tools, we are helping to create a future where racing talent is determined by ability, not resources”

Google Cloud is also partnering with >= More than Equal, a non-profit organization that is committed to discovering and developing the top female racing talent. As part of the initiative, five emerging female drivers will receive access to Driver Agent via the More than Equal Driver Development Programme, and state-of-the-art driving simulators at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Institute of Sport and Centre of Excellence for Women in Sport.

“Driver Agent release is going to be a circuit-changer for drivers on and off the track,”

said Barnaby Voss, UKI & Partner Marketing Director, Google Cloud, EMEA,

“Making this top-performance data available to all, Driver Agent enables drivers of all backgrounds to refine their skills and on the circuit regardless of resources or team size.”

How Driver Agent Improves Performance

At its core, Driver Agent is a (virtual) race engineer, deciphering live telemetry data and giving precise, actionable impulses to enhance performance. It’s able to assist in the following ways:

Instant Coaching – it evaluates car data like braking pressure, G-forces, downforce, and steering input, offering personalized real-time feedback.

Personalised Insights – Drivers are able to compare their own performance with others, identifying improvement fields and making precise changes.

Accessibility – Although analysis of data is no longer a privilege of elite teams, these AI-derived insights are now available to any driver who wants to improve their skills and find their limits.

The Hidden Cost

While the Driver Agent is marked as a democratizing racing intelligence, it also has the potential to endanger the careers of human race engineers. Engineers have traditionally had an important role in interpretating telemetry data, developing strategies, and showing drivers where they can improve their performance.

Young engineers might have fewer chances to break into the sport as AI systems take on work that was previously essential learning opportunities. While top-tier racing teams will still utilize human expertise, smaller teams may opt for AI-driven solutions instead of hiring full engineering teams, thereby leading to job loss and fewer career development opportunities within the sport.

It’s important to highlight here that AI is not as intuitive and flexible as human engineers who are able to make tactical calls depending on dynamic race circumstances, driver mindset, and unforeseen technical problems. While AI can provide real-time data analysis, it cannot replace the analytical minds and problem-solving capabilities of veteran professionals who know the human mind that drives their car. Instead of replacing engineers, a more appropriate view at AI programs like these, would be to introduce AI tools as augmentative support so that engineers can work on more complex, higher-value problems, possibly improving workflows and workload.

Infosys and Formula E: Reimagining Fan Engagement

Apart from advances in driver analytics, Formula E has partnered with Infosys to redefine fan engagement with the AI-powered Formula E Stats Centre. Powered by Infosys Topaz, the center delivers data-driven information and engaging features to make race-related statistics more accessible to fans worldwide.

Key Features of the Stats Centre

Key Stat Cards – Interactive infocards that adapt based on race timelines, providing information on all racetracks.

Key InsightsOverviews of seasons, races, and drivers previously experienced in AI offer fans compelling content.

AI Companion – Simple interface providing stats across seasons and asking questions for increased interaction.

Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E, stated:

“Fans are at the heart of what we do, and we’re thrilled to offer them a new and engaging way to connect with the sport. This partnership showcases how innovation and technology can elevate the experience for Formula E fans.”

With AI-driven tools improving both driver performance and fan interaction, Formula E continues to be a leader in innovation and inclusiveness and a future where talent, accessibility, and engagement define motorsport.

To rivals who possess the ambition to compete and fans who crave deeper engagment, the message is straightforward: the future of racing is open to everyone.
