The first qualifying session of Formula 3 in 2025 saw the Brazilian driver Rafael Câmara taking pole, and the session coming to an early end.
New cars also mean new chaos in Formula 3. After a rather calm free practice, it was time for the drivers to give their best to set the best lap time possible. The AIX Racing driver, Nicola Marinangeli was the first to test the limits of his car by going wide into the gravel. His teammate, Nikita Bedrin, was the first to set a lap time. It was quickly outdated by Théophile Nael. The Trident driver, Rafael Câmara, already quickest in free practice, took the fastest time from the Frenchman, by 0.5 seconds, despite his first two sectors being yellow. The first red flag appeared with only six minutes remaining on the clock. Brando Badoer went wide, lost the rear and spun, touching the wall in turn 2. Not the weekend the McLaren junior driver would have wanted as he will start P19.
A bit of a confusion occurred with Théophile Nael and his team. When it was green again, the VAR driver went to do his last attempt, but his team forgot a device on the top of his car. It was probably the end of his session and put him in trouble as he could lose his third position. In his bad luck, the DAMS Lucas Oil of Christian Ho stopped at turn 3, due to a mechanical problem. The red flag was out and the session stopped.
Trident seems on top again with a beautiful 1-2 by Rafael Câmara and Noah Strømsted. Charlie Wurz also managed to qualify in P6. The big surprise is without a doubt Noel Léon and Tuukka Taponen, both only in the top 20.
