In a somewhat already expected announcement today at 17:00 CET, Formula 1’s official Instagram account confirmed Cadillac will join as the championship’s 11th team from 2026 season. The news follows a keen consideration by Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and the management of Formula 1 culminating in a nod of General Motors‘ (GM) application to compete within the sport as Cadillac.

The Cadillac Formula 1 Team is a joint venture between GM and TWG Motorsports, a subsidiary of TWG Global. The team will run on Ferrari engines for the time being until their own exclusiv power units are established. Operations will be based in multiple locations, including Indiana, North Carolina, and a satellite facility in Silverstone, England.

This news is the first new constructor to join the F1 grid since 2016, representing a big expansion of the sport. The addition of Cadillac will make it more competitive and bring new concepts to the championship.

The inclusion of the 11th team will have a big impact on the sport. With 22 cars at the start of each race, it will become even more challenging to gain points, resulting in increased battles during the midfield. Distribution of the prize money will also be influenced, with the teams having to divide the funds between them and an additional opponent. Besides that, qualifying sessions may be more congested and thus drivers may not achieve clean air on their flying laps. Overall, the entry of Cadillac will change the Formula 1 dynamics, on and off the track.

With planning already underway for next year’s 2026 campaign, the Cadillac Formula 1 Team is hard at work assembling a competitive driver lineup and technical alliances. This could pose as one way to either bring back experienced drivers or introduce worthy new rookies into a series that’s very exclusive. It is a strategic move and a sign of the company’s enthusiasm for motorsport and Formula 1’s rising popularity, particularly in the United States.
